  1. That's an awful story to hear, it's a shame to hear a beautiful machine like that being destroyed. Thanks for telling us about this scanner. That said, $5000 still seems like a good price, given that one can build a pretty good "second per frame" scanner from a mirrorless camera and an Arriflex body for about the same cost. It would not have the heat and 240v issues though. I wonder if the guy's design below could be improved by using a Leica Q2 Monochrom and a switching RGB light source instead of a Bayer sensor. That could give you an 8K RGB scan. I might build it if I ever find a broken Arriflex for sale - I'd hate to cannibalize a working one.
  2. Does anyone know anything about the Filmlight Northlight? They're made by the guys who make Baselight (i'm sensing a theme in their product naming). There is one on ebay now for half the cost of a Cintel
  3. I'm aware of that, but sharpness varies by calibration and old lenses will be greatly improved by CLA. I am just curious about the condition of this particular lens.
  4. Thank you. Even pictures from a DSLR outfitted with a PL mount are good if you have one. What is the sharpness like on it?
  5. hi, do you have any pictures taken with this lens?
  6. Yes, but the depth of field and bokeh seen on a full-frame sensor with an f1.0 lens, is about the same bokeh and background blur you will need an f0.7 to get on Super35. Speedboosting medium format lenses onto VistaVision would be wonderful, but I can't think of a way to do it without a PL mount. The Beaumont camera will take Mamiya or Hasselblad lenses, but a speedbooster takes up extra space - you would need something like the PL-mount Whitepoint TS70.
  7. Hi all! I'm thinking of making a new HD video tap for the Eclair, one that allows a passthrough for the optical viewfinder like the AZ Spectrum ones, but with a 1080p SDI output. It would be based on a small beamsplitter and a Marshall Electronics SDI board camera. I'm hoping that with modern camera sensitivities we can get a good image while sending 90% of the light to the optical viewfinder. I've heard the AZ Spectrum taps are $1500 for BW and $2600 for flickerfree color analog - I can't guarantee flickerfree (if i had the time, money, and experience, this could be done with a Ximea camera and an FPGA, in half the size too), but I think I can make the HD SDI tap in a machined body for about $1250. It can cost less if I use a beamsplitter from Alibaba instead of Thorlabs ? My main question is about the optical viewfinder flange distance. Does anyone know if the AZSpectrum has additional optics to compensate for separating the VF from the body by 19mm? Or does the existing viewfinder handle it? Would anyone be interested in something like this?
  8. Do you know if there are any VistaVision cameras that will take PL or modified EF lenses? If Bruce's camera takes Canon FD, it should be able to take EF too. I ask because a Canon EF 50mm F1.0 lens, or one of the Vantage One or Arri T.ONE lenses on VistaVision are equivalent to an f0.7 on 4 perf... And Bruce's camera is a reflex, which Kubrick's Mitchell BNC was famously not... I'm not saying I want to shoot ultrafast on Kodak stock with a reflex camera and a Stereo or ToF depth camera for focus... but I'm also not saying I'm not.
  9. Thank you! I will try something like that! I think the true solution to focusing film cameras is with some kind of depth/ToF camera. There is a company now selling a $24,000 "AI focus" solution, but I think it can be practically replicated for under $2,000 with an OAK depth camera and a Jetson Nano. They also have IR illumination, so they will work in total darkness. If you can calibrate one, you can start with a truly accurate focusing assist screen, and the added Jetson will let you pick objects and lock onto them, if you can get it to control a Tilta motor.
  10. I guess what I will need to know is the "flange distance" for the CP-16 VF on the ACL - mine is an early model that has the original viewfinder. I do have a CP-16R, so if I study the mount on it, I can likely model and recreate it - but getting the flange distance right seems hard.
  11. How their adapters were made, but not much info about the mount itself.
  12. I wonder if Olex knows what the mount threading is, since he does service ACLs too.
  13. That would be wonderful, thank you Heikki! P.S. do most Eclairs have a little sliding pin for holding the magazines in place? I hear stories about mags falling off, but mine has a little slider designed to go under the latch and hold it in place. I can't find pictures of other Eclairs that have it. It is a very low serial number Eclair, I think lower than the ones in the 1971 brochures. I don't remember the exact number right now, nor do I have a good photo of it, but I did find this one for now. Thanks again!
  14. Thank you so much Gregg! So the TS is just a metric thread? I wonder if you, Heikki, or someone could measure the threads, as I unfortunately do not have any factory adapters. I suppose I could try to measure the ones directly on my Eclair. Alternatively, might there be a specification or mechanical drawing for the TS mount made by Eclair? That could help even more. This is the ebay machinist, by the way. https://www.ebay.com/str/rareadapters He does make some PL adapters out of steel, so it seems like he could make one that would work. Thanks!
  15. Does anyone have any photos or models of a TS to PL adapter? I can't find any available currently, but I found a maker of rare adapters on Ebay who is willing to produce one, but needs a reference for the TS mount. If I could find one, it would be much appreciated. It would be great to have some option in production.
  16. Hey, I'm curious to know more about this. For the types that fit between VF and camera, how do they get a beam splitter and sensor in so thin? And wouldn't you need a rather high ISO? I'm thinking of using an Aida 4K hdmi camera from B and H, but maybe you've found a better option.
  17. Does anyone know where one can find a PL adapter for Eclairs? I know Les Bosher still makes them, but I also know one must be patient when working with him, so in the meantime, is there anywhere else one can find it? Alternatively, I've been thinking of converting an ACL to MFT - to use the cheaper Laowa Nanomorphs, or the Sirui Anamorphics, or the DZOFilm MFT Zooms. Sharp Chinese lenses seem to balance out the softness of Super16 well and yield great results. Has anyone ever done this?
  18. Hi! I recently acquired an Eclair ACL, a very early model with the original Angeniuex viewfinder. I've heard that CP-16 viewfinder might be made to work with it, and I have two of them lying around. But I've also heard that unlike the NPR, they cannot be mounted without an adapter. Has anyone ever tried to adapt a viewfinder to the ACL like this, and are there any resources I should know of if I try? Thanks
  19. I recently acquired an original Konvas crystal sync motor, but do not know anything about powering it. I do not know what type of connector it has, and what signals should be supplied to it. Olex is currently defending his country, so I am wondering if anyone on this forum could give me any advice on this. Thank you so much.
