  1. hey everyone, here is my latest work, shot on 16mm film stock and arri sr3 film camera: https://vimeo.com/62775779 please check and tell me what you think ;)
  2. Hi all, First post here, thought I'd introduce myself. Having worked at a video production company in the UK for the past 5 years I've finally gone freelance as I'm looking to get more into shorts and gaining dp, 1ac, 2ac etc. experience. I know I'm at the very beginning but being 32 I'm not a spring chicken anymore. My first project is a self-initiated music video for an prog artist Crayola Lectern, shot on Epic and I was wondering if anyone had any constructive criticism on the piece? It's not fiction per se, being a music video, but I was aiming for a look which would work cinematically. All the rest of the technical info is on the Vimeo page but here's the video: https://vimeo.com/65640344 I know this has been answered in various posts by various people but I would like to get more experience on a set, either 1ac, 2ac (or dp, but unlikely get a break), what is the best way to go about this? Agencies? Just networking? Creating your own content (shorts etc.)? I know my stuff fairly well but I assume no-one will hire camera crew without real set experience or work credits. 6. Hey Everyone. I'm new to this site. Hoping to get some good feedback about my work. I am just starting to do film as a result of my work with music. I want to go into narratives some day, but I have a passion for music as well, so i think shooting music videos for my songs to come would be a good way to transition in the future. Take a look at my first song and video... I hope you enjoy! please comment.
  7. I hate live lip-syncing but I'm lost on a music video. I've shot it at 18 FPS and it got telescined at 25FPS. I think I should of made a seperate recording with a phone or something. I'm having difficulty getting it to fit. Is there some percentage I need to slow it down in post? Many thanks
  8. Hi Forum Members, I'm a student who has shot a music video on a Canon 7D. It was asked of me to achieve a color grade similar to the one in this video: From what I'm looking at it seems like there is a bit more than just overall desaturation going on with the entire image. There appears to be a black and white grade that coexists with blue elements in the band members. In the past I've used the three way color corrector in FCP a bit but only to do very basic colorization such as making the shadows a bit blue. I have Magic Bullet Looks but many of the presets even after tweaking severly erode the colors of the footage. Any advice on what direction to go towards in achieving a result close to the example would help. I've transcoded my 1080 footage to 720p60.
  9. Here is a new music video for the band FUN. that I shot 2 weeks ago. We shot this on EPIC almost entirely with an Optimo 15-40 which had a fair amount of vignetting (although it didnt bother me.) Most of the motorcycle shots were done with a Canon 70-200 with IS turned on. All of the shots with the band were shot 1 day in Seattle and we shot everything else for 2 more days in the LA area. Color correction was done by Prehistoric Digital in Santa Monica. Enjoy! Andrew
  10. Well as some of you may know I've been working on a music video for a while now that I shot on my DVX100. I got a lot of abuse for this what with the whole mini-dv thing and all. I'm actually not convinced it would have made a huge difference having a fancier camera, in fact it may have made some things worse and more difficult although there are a few times when I can see it would have made things better. There are issues with it all but they would be there regardless of the camera because they were down to issues regarding budget and most of all, time. Working around peoples jobs and trying to keep people fired up when they are exhausted at the end of the day (me included!) I'm partly quite proud of it given that we spent about £60 making the thing. Presently there are a few things bothering me tho. The main one is that I've ended up editing it and I'm not sure I'm the right person to do it justice. It takes me a looooong time to edit anything and the closer I get to the end, the harder and harder it gets for me to finish it! I'm wondering if I shouldn't really be searching for someone else to edit the thing? The other big thing is the grading of it. My laptop I'm editing on is terrible in terms of accurate reproduction and now I've pulled stills out of the video they look completely different again! Not sure where to go with it all but I thought I'd share the stills I have to hand! Anyway here's the stills. Obviously big Kenneth Anger influence and really low budget 80's sci-fi going on too: Freya
  11. I would like to film a scene for my music video where it will have the subject in a dark room with lasers behind him while keeping the room dark. How would you or what could you use for lighting that will allow me to do so? Please keep in mind that the light could reflect off the fog I will use in this scene as well.. Thank you! This link my similarize what I am trying to achieve here.
  12. Hey everyone, I just wrapped up my first music video. Definitely a lot of things learned to improve workflow next time around but I'm relatively happy with the result. I would appreciate any advice on how to improve the next one and opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of this one. Thanks, Frank
  13. this video is rather trippy. some of the techniques i recognize like the overlay, and the overhead green screen shots. tehre still really good. the quality is low, but for some reason i think they may have done this on purpose. there look to be a lot of purpose in this video. I cant seem to figure out how they did it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NcI6XAVnnw <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9NcI6XAVnnw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  14. Hello guys, Just thought you might like to see my latest music video. It’s not cinematography in a photographic sense; it’s mostly animation. That said, I’m sure lots of the same creative thought processes can be applied to both animation and photography. Let me know what you think. Thanks to Rob Skene who helped me make the video. Some other notes, it was made using Final Cut Pro 7, Blender 3D, After Effects, Photoshop, a Canon 550D,a green screen, and lots of pen and ink. Also it cost 0 money to make. http://www.pjscottentertainment.blogspot.co.uk/#!http://pjscottentertainment.blogspot.com/2012/12/lights-by-feeds-music-video-p-j-scott.html More information about the band can be found on my blog. Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter at: @PJScott89 or on Facebook. Thanks for reading, P. J. Scott
  15. Here's a music video I made as a submission to a competition created by the band The Civil Wars. I love this site because most of my work gets a lot of constructive criticism which helps for the next production. So let me know what you think about everything! :) Thanks! http://genero.tv/watch-video/34354/
