  2. Hey all, This has been a question I've had for a while. Are there a specific type of globe/light source that is commonly used to replace practical bulbs? I.e. If you're trying to reach a certain exposure, and want to use practicals, where could one find an assortment of different globes to reach a certain light level? Thanks!
  3. Hello, all! We are preparing to shoot a film out in West Texas (in the middle of the desert) soon. Our concerns are primarily with the heat (temperatures are expected to be a high of 101F) and bathrooms (as we will be far away from any nearby restroom). Additionally, we will be filming with RED cameras, and have a cast/crew of roughly 15-20 people. We have it in our plan to bring tents, massive fans, and water in bulk for breaks. And, we anticipate taking a 3-4 hour break during midday (when temperatures peak). However, we will have a lead actor in a fully black, long-sleeved/long-l

  7. Hello, We are shooting a short film. One of the locations is a 3rd story Apartment, with small balconies on some windows. We really want to use the location because it is an original 1970s Austrian Apartment with interiors. How would you light it though? Or would you? Shooting with daylight for three days could give us some continuity issues. Or would you shoot all of the shots featuring windows at once and then everything else seperately? I thought about putting lights on some of the balconies and putting up see-thru curtains , so they're kinda blown out, but it wouldn't work

  9. Im shooting a short film this weekend and the director wants a shot of a man shovelling dirt off the "lens" to reveal the himself standing over a hole in the ground in the forest. a Very classic Breaking Bad shot. Would love any advice as to how I should accomplish this... I've rented a Wide angle low angle Prism for the shot and I'm planning on buying a big sheet of plexi glass to put over the camera and cover with dirt. Any ideas (besides digging a massive hole in the ground) Thanks, Cole
  10. Hello there! FIRST OFF: WARNING; I am complete NOOB in this field so expect to see something really bad. I am just posting this to get some basic feedback on how to present myself on video (how I should stand, look into the camera, how I should move my face muscles when I speak and so forth), some lightning changes, editing changes, etc.,. My purpose of shooting video is appearing as a "spokesperson" (so yes, I am definitively wearing the wrong outfit). I will get better clothing, another mic instead of the one inside my camera and a complete white background since my camera has
  11. Hey all- Sometimes whilst reading AC I'll find that gaffers on bigger sets put together sweet wireless iPhone-controlled DMX systems. Have any of you done this yourselves, on smaller budgets or for smaller sets? I think it would be really cool to have at my disposal. Here's a post I just put together on my website about it: http://robertboscacci.com/2014/02/11/dmx/ Let me know if I'm just wasting my time/money. -Rob
  12. Hey there I'm the DP on a tenacious short film project set in Zimbabwe without the budget (or balls) to go and shoot there. Team is looking for a colonial style farm house within LA area (90min radius max) that could double for Zimbabwe farm lands. Planning for extensive VFX BG augmentation/replacement, obviously, but a good start would be nice. Any ideas or experience with this?
