dinko
Does anyone know a ballast one could use to power a single kino tube 4ft long. It would be used on film, so flicker free ability would be great.
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted December 4, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted December 4, 2005 Hi, There's dozens of types. Just ask for one that's high frequency - they're common as anything. Phil

I was looking for more practical answer, if you say dozen please state which ones and the ones you used. If there is a problem with advertising in this site than feel free to mail me the answer. thanks
Premium Member Dimitrios Koukas Posted December 5, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted December 5, 2005 Hello, Just look for digital ballasts, most of the consumer lighting companies make them. You can dim them too.Down to 0%. Dimitrios Koukas
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted December 5, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted December 5, 2005 Hi, I used Sylvania's Quicktronic range, type number QTP236, suitable for running two 36W tubes. I have confirmed using test instruments that the output is at about 50KHz, meaning they should be safe at all sane film speeds, but I haven't actually shot film with them. The QTP-Dim range is dimmable using 0-10V control (I think - there are certainly ranges available that are). You could fudge up a controller with a few resistors and a wall-wart power supply, or use a DMX decoder to run them from a conventional lighting desk. Dimmable ballasts are considerably more expensive, and be aware that dimmability does not imply high frequency. Phil
