Good, inexpensive HD cam?

The Canon HG21 looks kind of awesome. This camera was like $1,100 a few months ago. Now it's down to 799!

If you also shoot stills, you might look at the 5D2, which shoots 1080p video. It's video functions are kind of limited though.

Nice, but a bit too expensive - I can get a used HF100 for a little more than 50% of that price.

If picture quality is your top priority then the HV30 is certainly the best you can for low money. For some reason the prices have been plummeting recently.

 

This video here I feel is a pretty decent measure of what sort of images this camera can produce.

 

How does the HV30 compare to the HG21?

 

I used to own an HV20 and thought it was pretty decent.

Well I don't own a HG21. I just know that for those favouring manual functions and image quality the HV20/30 is the one at the moment. Perhaps the Sony SR12 can come close, but I don't think it'll be HV30 level in terms of picture quality.
