Shidan Saberi
Given that fact that the entire camera unit on a Iphone 4s is smaller than a human finger nail and far smaller than just the sensor inside a 5D i am shocked at the how close the images are. With a fast apature lens it can also get a good shallow depth of field. Like in this video How can it get such good footage when the camera unit is so small? The sensor must be tiny. Will it be bad for videographers if everyone has easy access to great quality cameras? Will it reduce the value of our work?
Brian Drysdale
Will it be bad for videographers if everyone has easy access to great quality cameras? Will it reduce the value of our work? Not much because the camera is one of the cheaper items on a production anyway. Small sensors have been around for many years, also you usually find that there are artifacts in the images from the cheap cameras, which don't matter to their primary consumer markets, but do become a consideration in professional cameras. Yeah, this is true. But also the camera is just one aspect of what we do, it takes time and work to perfect a unique talent of capturing images. Life experience and personality even play a sub-concious part in it all, like Chris Doyle has said 'If you don't have anything to say then you shouldn't be making films. It's nothing to do with what lens you're using."

Premium Member John Sprung Posted October 24, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted October 24, 2011 That's not just a stock iphone. That's a big Canon lens with an adapter on an iphone. Cute trick, but why bother when you can use a full size sensor and still have a camera of a convenient size? -- J.S.
