Dan Hasson
Hello, I am cutting a commercial project for a client and one shot they are asking to be stabilised. I spoke to the camera team and it was shot on a long lens (90mm) without a very good tripod / head as the operator panned the camera. It was a super low budget job so understandable. My first attempt to stabilise was using DaVinci Resolve's stabilise but it creates a weird lag effect to the wobble from the pans. Does anyone have any other programmes or solutions to this? Thanks, Dan
Joerg Polzfusz
Hi! You can try VirtualDub with the Deshaker plug-in (both available for free): http://www.guthspot.se/video/deshaker.htm Or proDad Mercalli: https://www.prodad.com/Video-Stabilization-for-Professionals/Mercalli-V6-SAL-Windows-97864,l-us.html Or the „warp stabilizer“ that is included in Adobe AfterEffects. Premium Member Tyler Purcell Posted September 8, 2023 Premium Member Share Posted September 8, 2023 Resolve works great, you just have to try different versions of the stabilizer. Each one has it's own unique look/feel. I use the "translation" one the most.

Hi Joerg, Thanks for these links. Not sure if I can see downloads for Mac? Do you know if they are PC only? Thanks!

It usually works fine for me but it must just be this particular shot. Do you know if there is a difference what stabilise can do with the free and paid versions of Davinci? Thanks! Joerg Polzfusz
Hi! VirtualDub and its Deshaker plug-in are both „Windows only“. But there’s an older version of Mercalli for Mac (the demo adds a watermark, but you could at least see for free whether it solves the problem): https://www.prodad.com/Video-Stabilization-for-Professionals/Mercalli-SAL-Mac-48950,l-us.html Adobe AfterEffects are also available for the Mac. And there’s also a free trial: https://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/free-trial-download.html

Joerg Polzfusz
BTW: DaVinci should have three different stabilization modes and sliders for smoothness and strength of the effect. Did you already played with different settings?
Dan Hasson
Hey Tyler and Joerg, We have played more with the DaVinci settings and have found a balance that works! Thank you for your help and your fast responses. Many thanks, Dan
