Zac James Nicholson
I recently removed the 400' spools on my XTR magazines to shoot 100' rolls. One of the two has copper oxidation on the screws as seen in the photo. Before I do anything to clean it off, I wanted to check and see if there is anything I should put on the screws to prevent further oxidation, with the obvious consideration that I wouldn't want any product to leach out and potentially interact with the film down the line. Thanks for any help!

Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted August 2 Premium Member Share Posted August 2 Looks like moisture got in there at some point. I clean and treat small corrosion spots like that with a brass wire pen brush and a product called CRC 2-26. Don’t use WD 40.

Oxidation on those parts is typical, they all do it. This is called galvanic corrosion. It's very common when you put brass and aluminum together. It's 100% normal, just needs to be wiped off and re-assembled.
Zac James Nicholson
Thanks for the answers and thanks Tyler for that chemistry lesson. Glad to know it wasn't moisture which would have been a lot more troubling! 🙏
