Ivan DImitrov Alexandrov Posted March 1, 2025 Posted March 1, 2025 Hello! I got an Arriflex 16S serviced on January 2023 by Georg Bogner in Germany. And for the moment it runs perfectly. I only shot a short film for it, with about 1800 feet, which you can watch the trailer here. The image is extremely stable and sharp even with 1950s Schneider primes. But still I wonder how often should I pay for a complete overhaul, or if putting oil in the oiling points is sufficient? I’ve read in the Arri manual it is recommended every 100.000 feet or 2 years. But I’ve shot very little compared to that. Greetings, ivan Dimitrov
Premium Member Simon Wyss Posted March 1, 2025 Premium Member Posted March 1, 2025 These cameras, if serviced correctly, can be run for years with a little oil every 5,000 feet of film. 100,000 feet in two years would mean 125 magazine loads of 400 ft. a year. That’s two and a half magazines a week, television consumption of the time. After ten years a service is indicated anyways.

Therefore every 5000ft I should put oil in the two user-accesible oiling points, right?

I'd say if you use it fairly regularly, every five years is plenty. I had an Arriflex 2C sitting on a tripod for decoration and after 20 years I decided to run it and it was still fine. 1
