1st feature film, low budget HD, mostly exteriors: which camera set up?

Recommended Posts

We want to shoot on HD, outside (think adventure in the mountains), onto a hard drive, with a powerful G5 back at HQ for dailies/rough edit etc, with the image as 'beautiful' as possible, lots of wide angle lenses. Maneuverabilty and flexibilty essential, really experimenting with angles and loads of takes.

I'd love to hear any opinion on which cameras might be best suited to the task.

Many thanks

Hi,

That's an impossibly wide question. Can you state some specific inspirations, cite similar examples? Not that anyone wants you to copy someone else, but it's so hard to understand what you're after.

What's the audience, where will it be seen? One big issue with HD is that if you aren't shooting the very best systems, if you want to project it the lack of resolution can become very clear in wide landscapes. That said, if most of the frame isn't moving, HDV will do its best.

What cameras might be best suited? Well, a Viper, or an HD100, or...

Need more info!
