Ben Iker
Hi Everyone, I'm a student who is just starting to work with film, so naturally I followed the advice of others and bought a K-3 for my first film camera. My issue now is that I won the camera on ebay and the lens mount wasn't listed in the auction details. So I have yet to find any place that says how to tell if it's a bayonet mount or an M42 mount. Can anyone tell me the distinguishing features of each and how to tell which mine is? Thanks!
Premium Member Will Montgomery Posted December 19, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted December 19, 2007 M42 Mount is a screw mount; it looks like a screw with threads. Bayonette mount has notches like a Nikon 35mm camera lens that lock into place.
Ben Iker
I believe then that it's a Bayonette mount. If so, how do I remove the lens for future reference?
Ben Iker
Just realized its a Bayonette mount, but it's missing the knobs at the top and bottom to unscrew the lens. That is what caused the confusion before. Is there any way I can fix it on my own, or am I just out of luck?
Premium Member Will Montgomery Posted December 19, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted December 19, 2007 Can you post a photo of what you're talking about? I have an m42 mount and there's no release, you just turn it until it unscrews and I thought the bayonette mount was the same way. It did stick really bad the first time I tried to remove the lens however. Do you have the manual? It can be found here... http://www.k3camera.com/k3/k3pdfs/2004k3man.pdf
Mark Dunn
The two lugs enable you to get some purchase to turn the locking ring. Without them you'll need to get a very firm grip, or put in a couple of pegs. It turns clockwise (as you look at the front plate) to release, btw. Ben Iker
Thanks! Finally got it to twist off, but boy did it take a bunch of effort.
