What is the best and safest way to clean the Mirror?

Very carefully, they scratch easily.

I would take a couple of pieces of lens tissue, double them over and wrap them around the head of a Q-tip or cotton swab. Then very carefully see if you can wipe the smudge away.

When doing rebuilds, we sometimes use acetone to clean the mirror, but you need to be EXTREMELY careful as the acetone will lift and smear the black paint on the edges of the mirror.

Did I mention that you need to do this very carefully?

Best,

-Tim

Hi , sorry to bump in to this , Tim , the other day i was cleaning the mirror and by mistake i took quite a bit of the black of the edges .. will this affect my image ? i presume you risk having flares and reflections on the neg ?

what would be the consequence of my daring stunt ?

Jonas,

You're going to have to test it, I don't know if it will cause a light bounce and fog part of your film or not.

Again, this is why I mentioned you need to be VERY CAREFUL whenever you try to clean the mirror on a motion picture camera.

Best,

-Tim
