Where can I get some super 8 negative film and where can I have it process ?

Hi Ray!

I'm not sure if Plus-X comes in a negative, but you are looking for a reversal stock, "Looking Glass" photo store has some (for like 15$ a cartridge) in Berkeley.

I got mine processed at http://cinelab.com/ for pretty cheap with a good turn around time. Also you might try http://spectrafilmandvideo.com

After processing, I did my own telecine, you can see a short I finished at:

and

the super8 showcase at:

Email me If I can help out in any way!

Thanks! we have cross processed B+W reversal into a Negative for a few super-8 jobs in the past. I would bet the guys at Spectra could cut and load some xx31 or xx22 into super-8 carts for you, there would probably be a minimum order.

Plus-x is only available in reversal for Super8

It is however available in 16 and 35mm as negative.

However both the Plus-X and the Tri-X reversal stocks that are available for S8, can be cross processed as negative and a lot of people do that.

Also it might be possible to get the 16mm and 35mm stocks cut down and put in carts but that would obviously be a special thing.

Hope that makes it all clearer. :)

love

Ray,

YOu send me a PM today with a deadline-based request for information concerning the ZM and ZMII.

UNfortunatly, your mailbox is full, so I cannot send you a reply via the PM system. In order to assure that you get the reply in time, I post it in this thread, hoping that you are subscribed to it.

Your question was covered in this thread/post of mine here. I hope you don't mind if I just post the direct hyperlink to this thread, which is:

I had a look at your deadline issue at hand (thanks for the link) and IT is really complete as concern accessory. body and glass look clean and in good order. If you don't need the additions of the ZM II, then this is was a good choosing! The battery pack is certainly be dead with all the rust on the contacts. However, sending the pack to Björn ANderson will get you a re-cell in the oroginal housing.

I hope you get this message. IF you have any further questions, just contact me. I will attempt to reply as soon as possible, but the next few days are busy for me, so I might not be superfast.

Best wishes, -Michael

Hi all,

Plus-X neg (ie xx31) could theoretically be cut down to super 8 as has been suggested. Here is a list of companies that offer non-Kodak cartridges of super 8:

Pro8, Spectra, Wittner, Kahl, GK film. Other retailers get their material from them. HOWEVER, the issue is the source material!!!!

I don't think GK in germany have a perforating machine themselves, but I believe either use ORWO or Wittner.

Kahl are an impenetrable fortress. They perforate Orwo film, but nothing else.

Wittner are able to perforate non-sprocketed 35mm film only. They did a small amount of sprocketed 35mm film for me and found it very difficult. Doing so on a machine designed for non-sprocketed film yielded only two s8 films per unit of 35mm film.

Spectra load s8 cartridges from pre-perforated super 8 or double super 8 material. They don't have a perforating machine. They could slit and load if you could get the stock perforated.

Pro8 can perforate sprocketed 35mm film to 3 super 8 films. This is ALL they can perforate. They cannot perforate un-sprocketed 35mm.

So, in sum the only viable rout short of acquiring some non-sprocketed 35mm film from Kodak (which I believe has never been done (John Schwind told me that)) the only option is sprocketed 35mm cut and loaded by Pro8mm.

Yes, use 7265 reversal plus-x as neg. Its nice.

cheers,

Richard
