Josh Fritts
I have a shoot coming up that requires me to mount a 7D to a car for various shots. We will be doing some hood mount shots, but most of the shots will be from wheel level looking back to emphasize the tires (see pic). I have used the bigger Modern hood mounts, hostess trays and rigging kits before on other shoots that I have done, but I need something more low profile and indiscreet. Also, if anyone can recommend where to rent such a thing in Los Angeles, that would be great.
Premium Member Bruce Taylor Posted July 15, 2010 Premium Member Share Posted July 15, 2010 Don't know if this will help, but Filmtools had a demo of a car mount system for DSLRs at Cinegear this year. It looked very versatile and inexpensive. Perhaps they could steer you toward a rental facility if purchase is not possible.
JD Hartman
Something like this: http://www.filmtools.com/filmtools-3025-plus-triangulation-kit.html Interesting how it uses the camera's shoe as an additional mounting point.

That would work pretty good. Thanks Guys
JD Hartman
Clever little kit actually. Everything except for the grip heads and the shoe mount, are off the shelf, common hardware items.
Frank Glencairn
Haque also got some nice and affordable ones: http://www.b-hague.co.uk/camera_suction_pads_vacuum_mounts.htm
Jonathan Bowerbank
That kit from Filmtools is just fine, or you could just rent suction cups at $5 a piece, a few gobo heads and arms and a baby pin with 1/4 20 male thread on one end. Does the trick.
Jason Meadows
Something like this: http://www.filmtools.com/filmtools-3025-plus-triangulation-kit.html Interesting how it uses the camera's shoe as an additional mounting point. I used that kit with a Canon 7D on my last shoot. Easy and quick to set up, and the mount was rigid and reliable.
