Damien Kabbaz
I'm thinking of picking up the AF-100 to shoot my first film. I've been looking at Zeiss lenses but I'm not sure what focal point to buy. Any suggestions on focal points or any other lenses you think would be good? I don't want to spend more than 4-5k. Thanks in advance.
Damien Andre
i think the sensor is a 1.6x crop, so if you want wides you need to go really wide
Premium Member Vincent Sweeney Posted January 9, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted January 9, 2011 (You meant focal length). No one can know which ones except for you and the DP you are working with. Get with him and figure it out from there based on locations and shots you want to do. If you don't know and are going to buy anyway, get a wider zoom. You will need to get still lenses for that kind of money though. I think using the word "crop" confuses people and really doesn't apply when talking about lenses anymore. Cory Zapatka
I threw my Nikkor 60mm on today and got absolutely beautiful results. see here: http://vimeo.com/20264619
peter roehsler
4-5k will buy you a great set of Cooke Speed Panchros including Arri adapters: 18/25/32/40/50/75.
JJ Labritakis
I own old Canon fd photography lenses and I rent Zeiss Standard speeds, Super Speeds, or ZF. Get the focal lengths based on your needs. I usually get 22, 35, 50, and 85. The crop factor compared to 35mm motion picture film is 1.18 which is literally nothing so don't worry about it. Iain Maitland
I've bought the Panasonic M4/3 lenses - 14mm , 20mm , 14-42. I don't quite get the lens biz but having the autofocus is a really useful - depending on what you're shooting.
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted April 29, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted April 29, 2011 I recently saw an AF100 with an enormous Optimo zoom on it that must have been worth five AF100s.
