Christopher M Schmidt
Just curious if it is possible to convert power off a anton bauer brick to an edision plug to run small tungsten bulbs (like 60-100W).
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted November 27, 2013 Premium Member Share Posted November 27, 2013 60W maybe, 100W probably not. In neither case would it work for very long. Watts equals amps times volts. Therefore, a 100W light bulb run from a (nominal) 12V power source requires 8.3A, not something that a camera battery will stand for more than a very few minutes. The 60W option is fractionally more feasible, although you're still asking for trouble. If you must do this, you can do it with any 12V to mains inverter, but really, consider using low-energy fluorescent or LED lights. Some LED mains lights can be trivially modified to run from battery power. P
Christopher M Schmidt
Thanks....yea that makes sense forgot about amperage issue. I have used lots of LED panels with batteries and the run time can be pretty good. Looking for tungsten sources though....we can plug it in just would be easier not to. Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted November 28, 2013 Premium Member Share Posted November 28, 2013 You can build battery packs off of car batts (though deep cycle marines will be much much better)-- will give a longer run time, though also be substantially heavier. There are some sealed lead acid battery packs out there which power lights such as bescors for a little bit as well-- normally they're around 35 W if memory recalls. Tim Tyler
How about using 12v bulbs like this? Bulbrite 50A19F/12 50-Watt A19 Frost 12 Volt Incandescent Bulbs, 2-Pack Just make sure you label them so that they don't get used in a higher voltage outlet later. Stuart Allman
I just bought some household 75W "equivalent" 3000K bulbs for a production we are working on next weekend. We just didn't have the power available to go all tungsten at our location. At 16W they are just as bright, but with a CRI of 84. You might be able to find a higher CRI if you need to use these for a key light. In my case CRI isn't an issue since these will be lighting the far background and we have the option of color tweaking in post if necessary (doubt we'll need to from evaluation). These LED bulbs combined with a simple 12V A-B battery and a sine wave inverter should operate well enough just as Phil pointed out.
