P Mitcheltree
Is the SR3 HS highspeed mag with timecode also compatible to run on the SR2 camera ? Or does the focal flange on the SR2 need adjusting. Thanks in advance.
P Mitcheltree
I am looking to use it on a regular SR2 not a high speed SR2.
Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted October 6, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted October 6, 2014 Hi Paul, Arri didn't recommended using high speed mags with standard cameras, or vice versa, but there shouldn't be any mechanical damage if you do. As you surmised, it's the difference in flange depth that's the problem. HS cameras are set 0.03 mm shorter than standard ones, due to the HS mag pressure plate design. This is not much, but might cause some softness on wider lenses at faster apertures, or cause a zoom to drift very slightly out of focus at the wide end. John Salim
I believe all high speed SR mags have fixed pressure plates whereas all standard mags have sprung plates. John S
