Benjamin Lamb Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Could someone please explain what the purpose of the "+" in the center of a field monitor is? I'm assuming it has to do with the composition and framing, but I'm not sure I understand why. Personally I just find it distracting. Here's a photo for an example: https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadhardmovie/14060361415/in/set-72157644027202177 Thank you.

Benjamin Lamb Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 Do some cinematographers/directors actually find that useful?
Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted February 6, 2015 Premium Member Posted February 6, 2015 I do, yes. Sometimes; you want someone dead-center in the frame, other times i may use the lines to compose a little bit; still other times, if it's a sit down into a shot for example; and I have to pan away to grab a slate, I'll "bullseye" something in frame as a reference. But just because i use it; doesn't mean you have to. There is normally a way to turn it off these days.
