Joe O'Shea Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Hi all I am doing my 3rd year graphic design project on the advancements of movie cameras. With a particular interest in the cameras that made big differences to what was able to be done, as well as early camera's. I was hoping to get some advise as to what cameras to look at. Thanks to any one who reply's.
Premium Member Jay Young Posted January 25, 2016 Premium Member Posted January 25, 2016 My short list would be the Pathé, Bell & Howell 2709, Mitchell Standard that takes you up to about 1920. 1
Patrick Cooper Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 The Bolex H16? It's compact size, versatility and rugged construction made it popular for documentary filmmakers. 1
Brian Drysdale Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 There quite a few key cameras, including the Mitchell NC BNC and BNCR, the Arriflex 35 IIC, Eclair NPR, Panaflex, CP16, Aaton plus others I'd check this site out: http://www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk/Collection/Cinematography/MotionPictureEquipment.aspx 1
Kenny N Suleimanagich Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 The documentary "The Camera That Changed the World" is a great resource to learn about how the sync-sound silent 16mm cameras (Mostly the Eclair NPR, but also a modified Auricon) revolutionized filmmaking. It features interviews with Michelle Brault, Richard Leacock, Robert Drew, DA Pennebaker, Albert Maysles, JPB himself, Nena Baratier, and a handful of others. 1
