Open-face vs fresnel: diffusion confusion

Recommended Posts

Sometimes I'll use par can for a bounce if the bounce is up high. That way you can easily hit a bounce with more punch and keep the light a little further away for more spread on the bounce material.

Or use a Source4 leko if you want a more precise bounce or fill a frame of diffusion, edge to edge more evenly/

I have always found open face lights are great for bounces as they will always put out more light than a comparable size fresnel.

It doesn't mean a fresnel won't work. It's just an open face will be more efficient.

What's the comparable in size, fresnel counterpart to the Arrilite 2000 Plus? Edited by Joshua G.

It puts out more light in total. Lux are a unit of point intensity. Lumens, which you refer to in your first post, are a unit of total light output, including all of the useful light coming out of the device.

The fresnel can achieve a higher point intensity through its use of optics to focus the light into a smaller area. The open-faced light will be more efficient overall.
