Guest Roman
Using one person he knows as an example of "how cheap it is in America" is ludicrous. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Talking about "cheap America" let me share a secret! I had been eyeing this house for a while... http://corcoran.com/property/listing.aspx?...istingID=771303 ahh... Manhattan... the land of cheap housing... :D :D

Rik Andino
NYC is the closest American city to England & Western Europe In terms of living expenses..... And the funny thing is Londoners and Europeans come here all the time... And say it's such a bargain to shop here. I don't here out-of town-American tourists saying that. So when a Brit tells you it's cheap out here [in America] they mean it... At least compared to their situation back home. However to us Americans it's still pretty expensive. It's like us here in America pointing out that Mexico or Argentina is cheap... However someone living out there might say not really...it's all relative. If you're earning American wages then things seem a bit costly... But when you're bring British or Japanese or European currency... Then you find you're money value has raise and goes further. And one thing you can accurately point out The America dollar isn't as powerful as it used to be...and that sucks for us. Anyways I'll stop now as this forum isn't--economics.com. It sucks even bigger for those of us who live in Canada, but get paid in USD. I used to get $1.55 CDN for each USD, now only $1.24 CDN for each USD. That's a trimming. Premium Member Elhanan Matos Posted June 15, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted June 15, 2005 The dollar being less than the Euro, is a bad thing, but it can also be a good thing. There are more and more people buying american goods because they are cheaper now.
Premium Member Brad Grimmett Posted June 15, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted June 15, 2005 Hi, My comments on colourists and steadicam guys isn't based on numbers, it's based on how I've seen a good few of them live... naturally I'm not going to name names, but, sheesh! Phil <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I understand that, but remember that those are a select few. I know some steadicam operators that are driving Porsche's or have a big house, etc....but they are the minority. It's the same way with D.P.'s. Some of them are making tons of money and some of them are just scraping by. I think David Mullen is a good example of one of the people that has left the "just scraping by" stage and is on his way to the "tons of money" stage (hopefully for him), which is where a lot of us are. We don't have enough money to be turning down tons of jobs, but we're not at the point where we're scrambling to find a job tommorrow. A lot of operators I know have other jobs because work is so inconsistent.
Premium Member Stephen Williams Posted June 15, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted June 15, 2005 The dollar is still more than the euro though, 1 Euro = $1.20 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Daniel, 1 doller 20 cents buys 1 Euro. The Euro at the moment is worth more that the doller Stephen
