Dominik Bauch
Can these be used with velcro? https://www.adorama.com/qsqbkt12.html Will Velcro hold the weight securely enough? Or are screws the old way to go. If so, what size works well, is a washer necessary? Thanks for any advice here.
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted March 3, 2020 Premium Member Share Posted March 3, 2020 If you're going to velcro the clips to something, I'd just velcro the tubes. But I wouldn't rig them anywhere they were likely to fall onto anyone or anything. You could probably use big cable rip ties with a reasonable degree of security. Premium Member Daniel Klockenkemper Posted March 4, 2020 Premium Member Share Posted March 4, 2020 I wouldn't use sticky velcro directly on the back of a Quasar tube - the rear half of the tube is a heatsink, and it would get hot enough to make the adhesive melt and unstick. Off the top of my head, I think #10 screws fit the holes in the Q-blocks. What are you trying to attach your tubes to?
Dominik Bauch
Thanks, 3/4 inch or 1 inch for wood? would you use washers?
Premium Member Daniel Klockenkemper Posted March 4, 2020 Premium Member Share Posted March 4, 2020 I'd say longer is better if the wood is deep enough. Washers aren't strictly necessary but I'd probably use them if I was screwing the blocks down with power tools.
Premium Member Joseph Tese Posted March 5, 2020 Premium Member Share Posted March 5, 2020 Screws can work, but i believe the blocks were designed for bolts and of using thin wood the bolts will be more secure. The bolts go in through the front, then you use a washer and nut on the back. The hex opening in the front prevents it from turning, just use the right size bolt.
