Michael Cleveland
Does anyone have or has anyone seen a Filmo 70-DB? Certainly interested in buying one, but would be happy just to know there's something out there, and perhaps see photos?
Premium Member Simon Wyss Posted June 17, 2021 Premium Member Share Posted June 17, 2021 That’s the model Golf from September 1931. It differs in that it has a 110 degrees opening shutter.
Michael Cleveland
Yes, I know. That's why I'm looking for it.
Philip Forrest
A 110 deg. shutter would be amazing in a Filmo. I've even thought about having a new foil shutter custom made to decrease exposure. Phil Forrest Edited June 17, 2021 by Philip Forrest
Michael Cleveland
There may have been other uses, but it was made specifically for analyzing golf swings, so probably had a limited market.
Michael Cleveland
The standard Filmo had a 216 degree shutter.

Hey I had a limited market golf swing camera once upon a time! 8 exposures on a single Polaroid sheet. https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/fs-mitchell-graph-check-sequence-camera-8-exposure-sequence-on-one-4x5-picture.90242/ Duncan
Michael Cleveland
There have been others made for that purpose, but this is specifically a movie camera.

Oh I know, this is after all Cinematography.com, I'm just fascinated by how fixated people were on capturing golf swings, apparently. Duncan You have to remember the time and circumstances. Filmos were expensive equipment, selling to people who were far more apt than most of us to take off on a world cruise and golf was as much a social phenomenon among the wealthy as it was a sport, so there was much 16mm film footage devoted to golf pros and how-to instructions. I have no interest in golf swings. Ideally I would like to locate one to purchase to complete a collection of early Filmos, but I would be happy enough just to find an example to have a look at it. Outside of the inaccessible Morgana Color Filmo, it is the only model from about the first decade that I don't have in the collection. Premium Member Duncan Brown Posted June 18, 2021 Premium Member Share Posted June 18, 2021 (edited) I'm sure you've seen this, though it doesn't exactly help your quest to see one of these cameras clearly: https://archive.lib.msu.edu/tic/golfd/article/1931aug76.pdf Oh but wait! This is a little better: https://archive.lib.msu.edu/tic/golfd/article/1932apr75.pdf Duncan Edited June 18, 2021 by Duncan Brown
