Frank Olean
Last night I decided to watch "Hereditary" (2018) again after having seen "Midsommar" (2019) a few months ago. Both are, IMHO, 2 of the best horror films of this century and I think they have extraordinary sound mixes. I was able to find that the sound mix of "Midsommar" was 5.1 in theaters: In the case of Midsommar, when it was seen it theaters, it was a very sonically complex, 5.1 format movie. https://nugenaudio.com/ruy-garcia/ However, "Hereditary," shot a year earlier, was 7.1 according to imdb: Sound Mix Dolby Digital (Dolby 7.1) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7784604/technical?ref_=tt_spec_sm Does anyone know anything about the sound mix for "Hereditary"? Was it really 7.1 in theaters or 5.1 as "Midsommar"?
Travis Shannon
Aster does some unique things with sound, as I recall both of these films had their own writeup on asoundeffect, just Google the titles plus sound design, they might go into this.

Yes, it is this article: https://www.asoundeffect.com/hereditary-sound/ I read it completely and it doesn't mention if the sound mix was 5.1 or 7.1. I'm sure Midsommar was 5.1 because I've found several articles where they say so, but nothing about Hereditary. I find it strange that it was Dolby 7.1 as imdb says when both the Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray have a 5.1 track.
