Johanan Pandone
I have a lowel DP light that I picked up for a bargain, unfortunately it's missing the protective screen that prevents the bulb from being broken, or a, exploding bulb from throwing glass shards all over the talent. I cannot find a replacement at the moment. I'd like to make one. I don't want it to reduce the intensity of the light, what kind of screen should I use? Ed Conley
No matter which screen you use it will cut the intensity- it is just like a scrim. ideally Stainless Steel screen Although I have not metered it, I'd say 1/2 stop

Ed Conley
Hi Johanan, it has been so long since we have sent out DP lights I don't recall. I'm sure the front diffusion on the softbox will contain the exploding bulb, if it happens. When we were renting out the DP lights regularly I only experienced of one example of an exploding bulb in about 5 years. The client did not tighten the stand riser knob, riser dropped and when it collapsed the shocked caused the bulb to explode. Guess what they decided not to use? Exploded bulb pieces landed on a leather couch
