  1. We have recently used a DigiDolly kit with great effect. Very light frame and track onto which you plant your tripod. Here in AUS its 65$ a day for hire.
  2. Hi guys, gearing up for a shoot in a week and a bit and am looking for any advice regarding a car mount as I've never had to rig one without assistance before. We're getting either a Ronford Suction Mount or the Microdolly Car Mount Kit, shooting with an EX1 out on location during the day. Has anyone used these before? How hard are they to set up? Any general tips and ways of setting up a car mount? Are polirizers absolutely critical if shooting with the windows down? I've been looking for some kind of reference materials for these two mounts and haven't found any, so if anyone knows where I can get a look at them, would be great. Thanks a lot, Alex
  3. Hi Matt, Your comments are dead on. Most of the things that you mentioned are due to the technical and space problems that we had. The headroom shots (in the interview at least) were used due to other takes where the framing was a little better were lost due to sound problems. The harsh light on the soccer jersey shot, we wanted to make it harsh but yeah it probably was a bit too much so. The dolly on Williams instead of zoom would have been good also but we just couldn't fit it on the other side of the table (which we couldn't move, it weighed a ton!!). Funny you should mention the suit. The actor was a bodybuilder so no-matter what we put him in, when he put his hands behind his head, it looked too small. In the end we felt that he needed to be in the suit, even though it didn't quite fit. Thank's for you comments mate, Alex
  4. Hi everyone, We've recently completed our second short The Consultant and would love some of you to have a look. http://blip.tv/file/1853956/ Alex
  5. Richard, going to see it again tomorrow :)
  6. What so impressed me regarding sound in No Country was the use, or rather non-use of music. I don't think there's a single piece in the whole movie until the credits start rolling? Regardless, very minimal amounts. Yet the tension during some scenes in the movie was unbelievable, probably one of the few movies I've been to this year where I was literally on the edge of my seat. Wonderful :)
  7. Deakins certainly did look somewhat disappointed. As good as it is for two pieces of your work to be recognised and nominated, fairly likely that's going to seriously hurt your chances. perhaps if the cinematographer gets nominated for more than one piece in the future the votes should be tallied for the person's name, rather than the actual movie ;) It was a bit boring seeing Bourne Ultimatum get most of the tech stuff. As enjoyable as it was, I can't help but think that just because you have cuts every millisecond and the soundscape is constantly filled with guns, explosions and shattering of glass it deserves the title of 'Best'. Daniel Day Lewis rightly won for his performance I think. Clooney was great in Michael Clayton but Lewis was just phenomenal. And how young does he look! Bit bummed that Cate Blanchette didn't win for supporting role though... Alex
  8. I agree with David on this one. I enjoyed the movie but the plots were a bit overly dense. So much going back and forth and back and forth. One has to wonder how much of a flop it would be without Depp and Rush in there. Keira Nightley and Orlando Bloom just don't impress me in this one. I quite liked the cinematography, though not enough to properly comment on it. Oh, and Keith Richards makes a good pirate i rekon :D
  9. Are the files stretched vertically? Are your monitors set to 16:9? If not the rightclick on the monitors and click the "use 16:9" button.
  10. 1. You can move clips in the timeline using the splice tools (the red and yellow arrows) I think the default hotkey for the one you would use to simply drag a clip is a ' 2. So did you bring in the audio of a clip and try to match it to a completely different clip? Or did you delete the audio off the clip and are now trying to add the audio back?
  11. Looks great! I'm a bit of a novice so I'm afraid I can't add any other useful comments or questions but I like it. The shot with the face of the woman is beautiful. The first frame grab is excellent also. Alex
  12. You are dead straight on with the lighting. Basically I abandoned any thought of light continuity as I was desperately short for time. I finished the last shot about 7 hours before the delivery! I basically decided to screw it and just stick the lights in for the shadows where they looked ok and didn't get into shot. Having said that I only did have 2X500W lights I got from a hardware store. The problems with sound are spot on also. I basically had to record with an attachment mike which was not very good quality. The 1st and 2nd voiceovers were slightly worked on to remove the noise and to add some pop to the sound but the last one was just cut in, I had no time for messing about with it - I presume that's when you heard the clicking? Cheers for the comments, Alex

    Wide angle lens

Hello everyone, I'm shooting a production with a XL2 camera that unfortunately has to be put into service for two days. Unfortunately I have to keep shooting and the only way to go is to shoot using my really basic consumer Panasonic NV-GS25. It is very basic but for thses specific scenes it will have to do. What my question is that I need to get a wide angle lens for it. Panasonic has one supported lens but I ca'nt find it anywhere to buy. So is there a lens that can fit my camera? Or is there any other way i can stick on a lens? The lens on the camera is 30.5mm. Any comments will be appreciated.
