  1. I bought this lens for $5 from a consignment store :) I just needed to know what adapter to buy for my canon. You sure it's nikon? Thank you!
  2. Is there a difference? Owen Automatic 1:2.8 135mm Front element is 55mm. I have a canon DSLR and would like to mount this lens to it. I don't know which mount to buy. Thank you! http://cgi.ebay.com/OWENS-AUTOMATIC-F2.8-1...5QQcmdZViewItem PS. the link is for reference.
  3. I've done this before in a pinch, and let me tell you, if you zoom in to the spot you want to meter, it works. Make sure the camera isn't metering the entire image, because then it's going to average it all out for the "best" exposure. You need the spot meter funcion, and use it to isolate different values to determine the best exposure for your scene.
  4. Richard: I chose to shoot on the red for a lot of different reasons. We used optar 16mm lenses that opened to a F 1.3, although the image started to get "glamorous" (ie: soft) when we opened up, so our "wide open" was a F2. The night scene in the car was lit with Rosco Light pads; the 3"x6" size. We taped them to the windows and cross lit the actors. We did use black paper tape to feather and control the spill a bit. Beware of the green spike in those Rosco pads! The still of them on the bed is supposed to be at night, with nothing motivating. If I had a picture to show you how tiny that bedroom was and how it was a loft with no windows, you'd understand. I am hoping that the director will put a faint TV sound, but that might not be necessary. I haven't played with the footage too much in RED Alert or RED Cine, just the quicktime proxies. What you are seeing is screen shots from the proxies, so the final images will be sharper. 1st day of production, my gaffer suggested we use 400 lux on our main actress, after I asked him for something heavier than 216. 400 Lux worked beautifully on her, and we used it for every shot that she was in. I told her about it the last day, and in her last scene before her picture wrap, she looked up and noticed a light with the diffusion on a 2x4 kino and said to me "that's my light!". Beautiful diffusion and it doesn't eat a lot of light. I tried to keep the lighting simple and motivated. I really don't like bare kinos, so every kino got some kind of diffusion treatment. I mixed hard/soft lighting and color temperatures, although I wish I had done more. We shot 90+ pages in 10 days of principal with 1 day at a page count of 12 1/3 and another at 17 (8 minute steadycam shot helped). Crew was great. Everyone got a long. Last 4 days of principal we BBQ'd for lunch and took our time since we were blazing through the shot list. I couldn't have asked for a better crew for the terrible rate. I am thankful they all stayed on and worked very hard for me.
  5. trying to learn on a Canon 5D isn't the best way either.
  6. why 30FPS??? Still?! (i know, I know, I understand, but still)
  7. Look at the edges of the sand on the ground. There is some green/orangish edges. I noticed this in the theater as well. Same thing on the top right, where the rust is being shooken off the car. Same shot, more apparent. This was noticeable in the theater. This shoot looked much cleaner, but a lot higher in terms of contrast. Could the contrast be hiding the aforementioned problems?
  8. ...wait...it's a NO budget, but you want to shoot anamorphic? Search CML for copious amounts of reasons that you SHOULD NOT shoot anamorphic without a budget or doing research. (you can certainly shoot anamorphic without money, but why would you want to?)
  9. i've experienced the same situation. no words.
  10. Looks great jayson. I think you might have noticed the camera switching between rec 709 and Raw after a reboot? If so, save your user settings to sn SD card.
  11. Here are some frame grabs from a feature I shot back in June. These are screen grabs from the Quicktime Proxy files. Red @2K. On some of the clips I have done some minor Curves adjustments, nothing that can't and won't be done in the DI. These shots do not reflect the final look of the film.
  12. 1st thing I do at a prep for a red job is try to figure out how to make it work like a real camera. Panavision has real techs, real cameras, real service, and a very good reputation.
  13. I like going on FB after midnight to chat with other filmmakers. Usually I can have 5-8 chats going around 1am. That's when "business" or "BS" get's done. I like it. I use it A lot. I think it can be better, and I also feel that the people running it need to respond to change and it's users desires quicker, otherwise it will become another myspace (read: desolate wasteland)
  14. forgive me for not reading your post. I read the title, and I'm confused. I think what you are looking for is a process trailer.
  15. Apparently the chipset in the Iphone 3GS is "capable" of recording 720p.... Prepare for the attack of the N00bz
  16. I also cringe when people mention that they are using DOF adapters.
