  1. This is the first narrative film i have ever made. I made it as part of a class i took last year. I used a Canon Scoopic, and B&W negative film. I edited on steenbeck, which i know nobody does anymore, but it was a great experience. I would like to know what you think. After the Beep... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0OZPS0xifc
  2. one thing i've often wondered is: why do americans feel a need to own guns? i havn't spent a great deal of time around americans so i dont really understand, but i know that in canada i know very few people who feel that they are unsafe if they do not own a gun.
  3. it depends where you want to sell it... if youre burning them off your computer and selling them in a store i would guess it might be illegal, but if youre selling it to people in the local music scene or something, then i doubt anyone will call you on it.
  4. in a word : "no" :D if you want a slow motion effect you can shoot in 30p and slow it down to 24p...its only slight...the other option that i have tested with very good results can be found here: http://rarevision.com/articles/slow_motion.php or you could use a varicam...that works too
  5. i would advise you to go buy some books or take a class about documentary filmmaking....you dont seem to know a whole lot about video editing etc. and before you just go and spend a whole bunch of money, maybe you should take the time to learn how to make a decent documentary....somehow i cant see someone making an interesting doc in less than 30 days, but you maye very well prove me wrong. to answer your questions: 1)you can get panasonic ag dvx100b for less than $2000...if you need to BUY your camera, maybe look at the some higher quality 3 ccd cameras, or maybe an HDV camera...i doubt you can get a dvx100 at circuit city...you proably have to go to a photography shop or a pro video shop or something....if you only need it for a short amount of time i suggest you perhaps rent it. 2)you edit your VIDEO by connecting your camera to your computer with a firewire cable and capture the footage to the computer....you can use any kind of program...iMovie or windows movie maker are standard on most computers these days. they arent too hard to use, but they arent the most professional programs available. more professional programs would be (for apple) Final Cut, and Adobe Premiere.. there are others, but i am not very familiar with them. 3) if you know nothing about filmmaking, i dont suggest you jump into making a documentary with no knowledge of film....make some short docs, and read some books and watch a bunch of docs and pay attention to how they are structures, and how they are shot.
  6. that had a real close and personal kind of feel to it... it felt like you were another character witnessing all the stuff that took place... very cool. i loved it. i would love to see the whole film.. it looks fantastic, especially for a $10000 film
  7. the sound didnt seem too great.. maybe thats because it wasnt that high quality of a stream....i thought it was pretty good.. better than most.. but the dialogue was weak as said before... all in all, good job.
  8. i am shooting a short in the near future and i would like to know which camera would be better for me if most of the shooting i do will be in 60i and 30p? i will only shoot a couple short scenes in 24p. i plan to take the 30p footage and play it at 24p and i plan to deinterlace the 60i and play it at 24p....this will give me slow motion. i want to know which would be the best? i want to have a very clear image, but i also want it to have good cinematic motion/look...
  9. in x-men 2 there is a scene like that. all they did was got everyone to stop moving.
  10. i was checking around on here and i found a way to get slow motion footage out of 60i and i am testing it now with fairly good results... i was staring to think that i wouldnt be able to make this project a reality.. i still hope to work more with film in the future, but for now this is working alright. thanks
  11. i would much prefer to do it on video, i dont really have enough money to shoot all on film.... i figured that out a long time ago. i havnt ruled it out, but i would much much rather shoot video for the time being.
  12. well they definately do, i can use final cut pro hd, and they also have avid adrenaline.. i dont know what they have as far as 3rd party plugins... and i have absolutely no experience working with stuff that is that advanced...to be honest i never thought of using the editing stuff they have...i joined mainly for discounts on rentals and for discounts from kodak, but its probably a good idea. thanks
  13. so i have set out to make my first semi professional short film. i am a high school student, and i have made sevral shorts before using a sony handycam and windows movie maker, but i want to make a more professional effort on my next project. my project involves a lot of slow motion, which is somewhat of a problem. i am a member of a local film and video co-op group thing, and i have access to a lot of professional cameras (film and video) and equipment. my goal was to use a panasonic agdvx100a to capture varous shots. some would be at 24p and others at 30p. i have heard about software that can "interpolate" the frames, and create extra frames in between. this would allow me to make some of my shots have as many as 60 frames which i could play back at 24 frames a second. this would give me a good slow motion effect. my question is will that work? if so, how do i do it, and what do i need? if this doesnt work, my other option is to shoot on super 16, or super 8. i originally wanted to shoot on super 8, but i dont know what the quality would be after telecine, or where i could have super 8 telecine done. and i have a feeling that shooting on super 16 might be a little expensive for me. i also dont have a whole bunch of experience with film movie cameras so it could be really hit or miss. i should also point out that my project has no sound. i will add music in post so slowing down sound is not an issue.
