  1. I don't think we've mentioned the 40's version of "The Killers". Noir at its best.
  2. Although I'm not familiar with the fuji stocks. 7218 is an amazing stock, specially when it comes to its very fine grain structure. if you can, do a comparison. good luck
  3. Hi David, At what point in your career things started happening for you? Was it after one particular film? For some dp's that's all it takes.
  4. Here are some shots from a short I did. We used the squishy lens from Clairmont to get those blurred borders.
  5. Congrats Eric. Looking forward to see it when it comes out.

    HD films

Hi David, You don't happen to remember what RES issue that is article in. I'm going to try to look it up. Thanks Francisco
  20. Hello there, Someone gave me a bunch of 7248 short ends, it's a stock I really like. They are about 3 years old and have been kept in a cellar at very low temperatures. I will probably do a snip test before I use them. Will unexposed filmstocks preserve that long when kept under those conditions? Thanks for your help. Francisco

    HD films

So I've been getting ready for my hd short and have been looking at a bunch of hd and video films.. Jackpot definetely looks great. David, do you have any articles or info on your shooting approach for that film? I noticed is 2.35. Did you just cropped from 1.78? I think that was the same approach for stas wars. Do you keep a constant eye on a waveform monitor for exposure? Sex and Lucia also looks amazing, does anyone have any technical specs on that one? I also watched Personal Velocity and Bamboozled (spelling?), both film shot on smaller dv cameras, very well done regardless of the fact that they were shot on video. In fact, format becomes irrelevant when the story, the acting and all the other aspects of filmmaking help carry the story along.
  22. Hello everyone, More and more I've come to believe that one of the signs of a truly talented dp is the skill to light interior wide angle shots. There is so much space to play with, there is so many decisions to be made as far as what to keep in the dark, how to use the practicals, how to deal with distortions and the sharpness fall off inherent to wide angle lenses, etc I'm interested to know what's your approach. I'm sure it varies depending on the project but, do you have a particular method to make it look good? Do you find yourself working at high light levels to stop down the lens and get more depth of field and better contrast? Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Francisco
  23. I saw David the other day at cine gear. I decided to approach him to introduce myself and he maybe recognized my name. Let's say I was anonymous, what will I say? "Hi David, I'm "ANONYMOUS", nice to meet you.
