  1. Thank you John, I'll look for the article, what do you mean by rope light? Francisco
  2. Hello everyone, I will be shooting a low budget horror feature in March and I'm looking for references for the look, camera movement, lighting, etc. The story is about a group of people that go on a vacation trip to the mountains and get attacked by a serial killer. Yeah, I know, you've heard it before ;-) Is there any particular films out there that caught your eye? Any comments will be greatly appreciated, Francisco
  3. How do you guys think this scenes were lit? I really like the way they look, the first one has a really nice glow and the color temperature works perfectly for candles, it has a brassy yellow feel to it more than coral, i wouldn't be surprise if it's almost all candlelit with a soft key/ambient light. The second one, I image a huge source coming from outside. Very soft but still with good contrast. Any thoughts? Thanks Francisco
  4. Good luck David, sounds like an interesting project. Have you decide what format, is it 35mm? Francisco

  7. I recently bought an Aaton LTR54 and while it was being serviced at Abel they found what it looks like a little camera where the video tap usually goes, I was wondering if anyone has any idea what this is and if it can be used as part of a video tap, in other words, what else will I need to make it work. Thanks Francisco
  8. Sorry about the size of the images, they look ok on my computer. any help will be appreciated. Thanks
  9. This camera is in excellent condition, there isn't a lot of wear. I have shot with it and the footage looks great, it's a reflex camera, you are getting what you are seeing. It comes with a 12.5mm wide angle lens and a 25mm. I'm asking $250.00, I'm willing to pay for the shipping (within the U.S.)
  10. I'm selling my Spectra Professional IV light meter, excellent condition. Asking price $200.00
  11. The best advice I ever received was: Shoot, Shoot, Shoot, Shoot...... Shoot film, video, stills, anything, just keep shooting and be creative, push yourself. And one day it will happen for you, and if doesn't, who cares, at least you did what you love. It might not apply to the initial question on the thread but it applies to what ultimately many people on this site want to do. Best luck for everyone in 2008!
  12. What a great film. Some of the lighting choices were so perfect, very subtle, the photography never screams at you, it fits perfectly. I think they were using 2 cameras for a lot of the coverage, for instance, the scene in the alley when clooney sees wilkinson's character for the last time. It cuts great. Francisco
  13. Would you be interested in selling the cooke zoom only?
  14. Hey JD, I'm in Los Angeles, CA and willing to ship if necessary. Thanks Franciscoo
  15. I'm selling a Mole Richardson 5K, it's in good condition, brand new bulb, comes with set of scrims and barndooors. Make me an offer. Francisco
  16. Thank you very much Rodrigo, That's all really insightful information, I appreciate you sharing it with all of us. Francisco
  17. Hola Rodrigo, felicitaciones con Lust, Caution. What a great film, I have to admit that it dragged a bit during the first half hour but after that, I was glued to the screen. Rodrigo, I was wondering if you could talk a bit about your lighting approach and how you create that beautiful, wrapping soft light, I also noticed very prominent eyelights, almost at all times, it really brought me closer to the character's emotions. To me, the film had the characteristics of a noir film but with the use of more soft light, some of the angles reminded me of the noir movies from the 40's and 50's, was there any particular films that were used as a reference? I enjoyed the slow mo shot when they were crossing the street, that's a perfect example of technique not being overused, held for a crucial moment in the film. Saludes, Fracisco Bulgarelli
  18. Looks good, Jake, congrats. Wha did you shoot it on? As far as the style, it's a bit monotonous for me, maybe try a few more angles with the bikes and add some other locations. Maybe some time-lapses, etc It looks good though. Francisco
  19. Rest in Peace John, my prayers are with the family. I will never forget all your kind words of advice.

  21. I attended a lighting seminar with him several years ago and one of the things that I remember the most is that, there was always a sense of joy in what he was doing, he was truly having fun teaching us about lighting and camera movements. He would always come up wit great stories. He seemed like a truly happy man. R.I.P. Mr Kovaks
  22. Thanks for the link Xavier, I'm working with an Old Sr2, it doesn't have an adjustable shutter, probably 180o only, i will double check, do you guys think that's going to create a lot of problems for me as far as the flicker is concerned? I'm going to test it, just trying to get ahead. Thanks Francisco
