  1. I'm sad for his family. Didn't like any of his films but it made me think. What got to him? What did he see? Was he privy to something that scared him to the core.
  2. Making a good move shooting on film. You will have lush footage that you'll never be embarrassed having in your show-reel as opposed to saving a couple of hundred quid and having some pikey Mini-Dv rubbish.. Good move. 16mm - Fuji stock is cheap - and they do good discounts. Give them a buzz. Sometimes they have cheap stock on here. ( I spy 64D at the mo in 400ft loads) 25 quid tho! Bargain. I have some 16mm and would happily send you a can of 400ft for free. You can get it cup up to 100ft loads in the lab if u need. Let me know. Also you can hustle Fuji and say you wanna test there 16mm stock. They will send you one for free! http://www.filmstockclearance.com/ Me - I love the Vivid 160T with filter.
  3. With you here. I dont care if it's expensive. I've dedicated my life to 35mm. You only live once. Why on earth would anyone want to compromise and shoot digital? LIFE IS SHORT. I will live like a pauper just so i can shoot 35mm, have it developed, scanned and when the time is right. PRINTED!! This is a great time to be shooting 35mm you cant get Arri 35 BL's for 3 grand!! thats the same camera they used on GOODFELLAS!! HELLO!! WAKEY WAKEY!!
  4. YOU"RE DAMM RIGHT THEY COULDN'T AFFORD ME. Im off to the Forrest now to film some bugs with a COOKE S4 130mmm lens. REAL MANS AFTERNOON. Ya heard!
  5. i-dallies http://www.i-dailies.co.uk/ Speak to Nigel. He's a legend and will sort you out
  6. If I joined a production and the stands were the ones featured in the link. I'd wonder where else the budget was skimped. Chilling prospect really. Perhaps they'd use an arc welder as an eye light. Lol
  7. Look I'm sorry for getting angry last night but Phil, sometimes you're just plain stupid. Let me give you a little story how a Dolly (created from some daft web tutorial) ended up breaking the back of an old friend. We were on set and the day was drawing to a close, the Dolly guy had gone AWOL, suffice to say a runner who happened to live literally minutes from the house tried to be a hero. "I've got a dolly" he said. The director wanted this shot, so he agreed that it would be worth a shot. Suffice to say, he returned with this bizarre Skateboard/silver dining plater configuration, the Camera man mounted up (Arri 416) and the thing just had a mind of it's own it, before anyone knew it the thing started rolling off down the hill, cameraman on board screaming blue murder and he ended up in a ditch, lens destroyed and the Arri a muddy mess. Cut a long story short, the insurance was invalidated and the guy ended up with a 40K bill. But yeah, fuk it, build a stand from a BBQ and Mr T action figure. Hope it serves you well.
  8. Why do my commebts keep getting deleted. Someone is protecting Black MAgic.
  9. Gold mine alert. www.zen171398.zen.co.uk/index.html
  10. It's all a big joke to you. Let me tell you this Phil. I've been on some of the biggest shoots this decade. Dark Knight, Shawshank Redemption, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the movie, 1984 etc and did I ONCE bump into a DIY stand? NO. I DIDN't. And yoou know why? Because they had a Massive budget. This world of "DIY" Is so Freakin alien to me, so god dam student and hopeless, the very fact I'm talking about it is driving me to damm near Suicide. A FUKIN STAND. YOU CANT AFFORD A FUKIN STAND. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE?
  11. I feel as a world class grip adviser I need to chime in here and echo some early sentiments. In short, what the original poster has posted here is at best extremely dangerous. At worse, advocating a device that could kill crew members. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for cost cutting tricks but when MY 4 year old son is crawling around the set and knocks his leg against one of these 'legs' and a 5K Arri blonde falls off on to his head and kills him. I'll SEND THE **(obscenity removed)** POLICE TO YOUR HOUSE AND HAVE YOU F**KING ARRESTED. You sicken me.
  12. How does the Periscope work then? is that what they use on nature documentaries to film bugs?
  13. Thinking of hiring one on Saturday to film bugs and little worlds in the Forrest on Saturday. Any one got any experience? Also does the PV filter size cover this lens? 4” x 5.6” filters?
  14. You obviously didnt train the guys. its not their fault. It's yours. either a) use experienced crew B) train inexperienced crew how to pack lights. ...seriously some people are just morons.
  15. Sorry I don't follow. Are you telling me, this Reversing Mag is a practical Joke and I can just swap over the pickup spool for take up spool on any old mag?
  16. Hello, I came across this 'Reversing Mag' Seems the spools are flipped. Can someone tell me the use of this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Arriflex-3-35mm-400-feet-Reversing-Magazine-Good-Condition-/310418755800?pt=US_Vintage_Cameras&hash=item48466650d8&ssPageName=RSS:B:SHOP:GB:101 Also, im looking to do some shots where I film with half the frame matted out and then reverse and record with a new top section. Would I need one of these mags for that? P
  17. I would say as you don't have a clue, £75 quid for your time. As they will have to rent the rig out, i think thats fair enough.
  18. Hello all, I was wondering If anyone can tell me the current state of play with 35mm? I can still get neg developed at Technicolor London. Any thoughts on the current state of play? Looking at Kodaks site, many top notch films are still being shot on 35mm... What are your thoughts? P
  19. Need a handle for my arri-3 the prick who sold it, sold it with a fuked handle:
  20. It's a day time shoot. I'm going to hold off until late afternoon too hopefully get that nice golden afternoon light. One thing that concerns me with shooting into essentially a massive light box, is it will be too overpowering. I was thinking of breaking up that huge box of light with pieces of card in the window or something.
