    eclair loading question

Hi MTL, Anyway, doesn't really matter what is on the receiving end, daylight spool or standard core. How you are going to unload the film, wether in total darkness or or not, decides that. If you use daylight spools it is not a bad idea to keep to use daylight spools on the receiving end. You will use the same storage box, if otherwise you have to get cans and bags and cores probably, adding unecessary bits and pieces to your kit. You can get all of this including daylight spools from the lab your going to process with. Oh, if you could sign your posts, thanks. 3. Hi Matt, The Aaton 35 is in a different league, that is no way to compare with an Arri 2 or even 3, that is a hell of a great camera, silent light also pos to 3 perf and not cheap either. Last time I worked with one four years ago, the DoP owned it and he was very happy. I think many people don't really know Aaton to be honest. I love em, but most DoP's I work with here in Europe want Arri or Moviecam. Only in England and France Aaton seems to be popular, as well as in the US of course. In Munich, the A-minima is the only Aaton around. It is a shame. Chose between an Arri 2 and a Konvas, well I have an Arri 2 so I am biased but there really nice cameras, easy to service, worldwide. Easy to upgrade and compatible. Konvas cameras, there are some around, quite a few afficionados. but to many dodgy dealers. Depending where you live it might be difficult, no local technical help. My two cents Regards Emmanuel, London Camera Assistant - Focus Puller Munich - London +491608036889 - www.suys.de - +447910034443
  4. Hi skratch, >are there 400ft mags available for these cams? The late bolexes do accept 400 mags, such as the one body that I am selling :-) The beaulieus have additional mags but correct me if I am wrong there are 200ft only. Hope this helps, Regards Emmanuel, London Camera Assistant - Focus Puller Munich - London +491608036889 - www.suys.de - +447910034443

  6. Hello Jarin, As said some companies have made lots of accessories for Moviecam SuperAmerica making it lighter and more manoeuvrable. Many Arri accessories fit Moviecam as well. Talk to the rental house If you can go to the rental company and have a look at both. Try them out in handheld mode. After all you should get familiar with it before you make up your mind. Cause you are the one going to operate after all ;) Regards Manny, London
  7. Greetings Alain, Have you tried the eclairacl list on the topica website? you might find something to fill in the gaps. Regards Emmanuel from London Focus Puller ACL and NPR owner
  8. Hi Edward, If you are still in Munich by the 24th of August I will be able to help you. I have the motor in question however right now on location in the Middle East and my motor is in Munich :-) Let me know how I can reach you once back in Munich. Regards Emmanuel from Beirut.
  9. Greetings Samuel, You can upgrade an SR2 almost to an SR3, you should check with P+S Technik in Munich or also check with Präzisions Engineering Denz in Munich as well. You will get all the details from them. There is also a company, I think in Florida who represents P+S Technik. I know with the P+S Technik modified SR2, better known as the evolution, you can do some ramping but it is a while since I have worked with one of them. It is if I am correct rather basic. Also worthwhile checking is Cinematography Electronics. Regards Manny
  10. Greetings, You need to change the electronics or add electronics in order to go for single frame on an Arri SR3. Wanted to do this early spring for a commercial, and that is what Arri rental here in Munich said. Regards Manny
  11. Greetings Alexander, Just finished some testing today and as said I did also test my bolex S16 PL mount. Very pleased with the results. The test was not as long as I had hoped for due to shortage of time, also don't have rod support system for the Canon zoom 8-64. The lenses used were a set of Zeiss H/S. No vignetting whatsoever. The widest lens used was the Zeiss HS 9.5mm T1.3. The setup I have is Bolex Bayonet Mount with a PL adapter. All work done by Les Bosher. Hope this helps. Regards Emmanuel from Munich

  14. Greetings again Alexander, So there is some time, will keep you posted on the results of the test regarding any potential vignetting. Regards Emmanuel from Munich
  15. Greetings Alexander, Yes Les Bosher should be able to inform you all about it. When are you shooting? For my part I am going to do a full scale testing in about two weeks time, I will make a test alongside with the bolex S16 bayonet pl mount adapter included. Test will include some set of primes, canon zoom 7-63, zeis 11-110 Regards Emmanuel from Munich
  16. Greetings Paolo, You can start finding out through this website, they make it and you will have all the infos there on dealers etc... www.pstechnik.de Hope this helps. Regards Emmanuel form Munich
  17. Greetings Leon, There is a good mail list on the Konvas camera on the Topica website. There is also the excellent www.commiecam.com site which if I am correct is the also the founder of the Topica Konvas mailing list. There is a small but very active and passionate community of Konvas users out there. That is the place to go and get the advice you are looking for. Regards Emmanuel from Munich
  18. Greetings Justin, Not familiar with the CP16 mount but get in touch with Les Bosher, he is a well known respected camera technician that makes lens adaptors, lens mounts and so on. He just did some work for me. If there is a possibility he surely will know. Bayonet adapters exist for Arri, Eclair, PL, c-mount and so forth. les@lesbosher.co.uk Regards Emmanuel from Munich
  19. Greetings Jason, Andrew Alden has an excellent book, the Bolex Bible. Lots of interesting information in it. I actually also recommend his other books. If Bolex is the road you choose, go for a 1:1 shaft. There will be plenty of gear around at decent prices, ebay is full of it. Just be careful about the lenses, don't mix up RX lenses and standard ones. Regarding mounts bayonet might be wiser as you can easily get adapters for the more recent mount such as PL, Eclair, Nikon mount etc... This makes upgrading to S16 less expensive in the end. Hope this helps, Regards Emmanuel from Munich, RX 5 owner
  20. Greetings Tom, Would just like to add the following to the excellent reply previously given. Before you make up your mind make a list of gear and accessories that you will need and most important of all that are plenty therefore easy and cheap to obtain. Some gear is not expensive at the base but becomes difficult to expand, adapt and upgrade. By this I mean if upgrading one particular make of camera to S16 or changing to a PL mount is going to cost you an arm and a leg, maybe thinking about another make is not a bad idea. The option of adding at a later stage a video tap etc... is to be taken into account if you are thinking serious projects. Regards Emmanuel from Munich
  21. Greetings everyon, If Ultra was a decent option it would already have been exploited a long time ago. Sure S16 took a while to take off, but it is there because it is the best option. As far as processing and post-production it might be alright if the one existing lab or transfert hse is next door to you. Frankly for a mere 600 USD I upgraded my Bolex RX 5 to S16. That was also done by an expert in the field. All I need is to change a couple lenses, the rest is identical. Then I will upgrade my Eclair gear, the lenses will be already there. Why go a difficult path if a proven one is there right in front of you. When you own gear, in particular N16 you have to face some expenses. I call this investment. But Ultra 16 is not an investment in my opinion. And probably owning gear might not always be the right choice either but that is a another topic. One can go the Ultra 16, nothing against it. Sorry for responding late but was on location shoot and with the new posting system it ain't that easy anymore. :( Regards Emmanuel from Munich
  22. Greetings Vivian, For a while I researched the possibilities that were available for my N16 gear to upgrade. Chose to follow the S16 route as don't want to find myself without processing lab, if I need a second unit it will be easier to find another S16 than an Ultra 16. I found it worth, but that is depending on one's intentions, to upgrade to S16 and change my three turret c mount of my RX5 to a PL mount. You are right about it being expensive. But the choice of available gear is plenty, and of recent, excellent quality. Also if I need another piece of gear, and I am in bum xxxx nowhere, I will easily find a PL mount S16 solution or accessory. Invest a little at the beginning but save in the long term so to speak. Regards Emmanuel from Munich
