  1. Try attaching a magnet to parts of your camera, see if they magnetise. And I wouldn't imagine a magnetic field would actually damage your equipment permenantly. Make sure you get a second opinion!
  2. Not unwelcome at all, quite the opposite in fact, a very enjoyable film, it had a real message to it I felt, with the actor being so small. I would also suggest you put this in the Please Critique My Work section of the forum, therefore a wider scope of people are likely to view this.
  3. I bought a Velbon Sherpa around 2 - 3 years ago for £70 and it does the trick OK, apart from the leg securing clips, or which a couple have broken.
  4. Very wrong indeed, David! Almost as wrong as the time I though the defference between 200 ASA and 320 was nine stops!! As for you, Freya, they were like that when I got here! And yes Richard, I rather like Britain, and I rather like god. You're completely right about the Brits being the noisiest when it camoes to religious debate, I suppose I'm one of them.
  5. Actually I'm not! God is real and I'm sticking up for him!I really should strengthen my passion for my views.
  6. It is true. And he is kind and benevolent. This is our fault, not his. :)
  7. Start with something like ginger beer, or root beer first. If the alcohol ends up turning into methanol it could make your liver be in trouble! :P There's a place called Northern Brewers that's rather nice, it sells root beer essence. Don't get any on your hands. Richard, I was under the impression Canada had an NHS system? It's certainly time the USA did. To get back on topic I think filmakers will always need cinematographers, they may have to work for less money, or use lesser equipment, but they won't be made redundant, surely a tough economy will increase demand for escapist entertainment. In 1929 cinema ticket sales went up by something like a third after the Wall Street mishap, and continued to rise consitstently until 1934, when thing started improving. We'll ride this recession out OK too, it doesn't seems as bad as 1929, and honestly, it's not as if bombs are dropping on out heads every second, or our loved ones are dying of a horrible incurable illness. The sun will still rise and set, and god is still looking after us all.
  8. Well work has definately slowed for me lately, nobody's is asking me to shoot their 35mm feature films anymore. :P Seriously though, tough economical times are just an excuse for me to shoot all the more, I took my first 35mm today!
  9. Indeed. Nikkors for my FM2, Minolta's for my A200.
  10. At first I suppose only on Fuji's movie-mode-enabled digital cameras, but it looks like something that should catch on pretty well.
  11. Works fine for me, and I have a PC. Perhaps it was removed and then reinstated, Youtube's moderators have been cracking down on copyright infringers like mad recently, they could have made a mistake in this case. Most of my favourite video are sown because of them. :(
  12. Will Panavision re-imburse these people the value of their equipment? :(
  13. Sorry if I'm wrong, but was the 25 ASA Eastmanchrome stock not 1952 - 1959? Anyway, Edward, Fuji Velvia 50D is a stock matching your needs that is readily available in Super 8, I'm not sure about 16mm, it might possibly be discontinued in that format. Plus, it's only one stop faster than the original! If I were in your shoes I'd personally use Kodachrome, since that stock really shaped how we think of the 1950's, though obviously it's a Kodak stock. In any case, good luck!
  14. Now that's hardly realistic. For that sort of amount sold you'd proabably only have to have 500 - 1000 shooters of Super 8 worldwide, look at the super 8 infrastructure, filmshooting.com, Straight 8, Kodak's five stocks, Spectra, Con8mm. That's hardly an empire built upon 500 users, more like 250,000! Possibly more. And I can't see that dropping significantly, even in a recession. And that's hardly the entire film market. It's not as if every film user and enthusiast on earth is going to start worshipping the great god digital. Look at people in India or China, or a place like that. Their living standards are improving sufficiently for many of them to look at taking up a hobby, and photography is a popular one. These places hardly have the infrastructure, even less the will, for internet and high speed computers and all that. With all that's needed for film shooting being batteries for in-camera light meters, a small amount of money, and a postal service, I could really see film taking off in these places. There is going to be a big market for film emerging over the ensuing years, which can only be a good thing.
  15. Agreed! I believe over the next five to ten years film will become one of those specialist products (the recession hastening this change). These sort of things survive because they have something so special about them, they also have a scene. One quick look in a branch of W.H Smith and there are loads of these sorts of magazines around, horse riding, steam enthusiasts, furniture restoration, the list is endless. Film will survive. Quite simply because it's unmatched in it's beauty, spontenaity and soul. Just look at this forum! Too many people love film to see it go, no matter what!
  16. A lot. Probably in the region of $40,000 - $50,000 USD.
  17. Those nutters have made some VERY powerful enemies...but oh boy! They do have a point.
  18. I really liked the advert! It certainly lacked the swish corporate feel of the British Ikea advert, but all the better for it I think. Ikea, after all, sells cheap and cheerul furniture for people with a bit less money, and shouldn't feel like a Barker and Stonehouse advert (they're a high end furniture company in the UK, rather expensive). As for the cinematography I think it was really nice, you got the feel of the shop floor perfect, without making into an american infomercial sort of experience. Simplistic quality are the word that spring to mind, it won't win you any awards, but it engages the viewer, and that what really matters. I thought the fast shots to the price tag were really a nice touch too. I wonder if you could translate the words for me please, and what the currency in Israel is (at least I presume it's Israel). Keep up the good work! :)
  19. I don't quite know what to say there... ...oh wait! I do... OLOLOL0L!!! ROTFL!! LMFAO!! HaX0Rr!1!!! ;) -_- :) :P  B)   Though idiocy aside you have a point. Except today it's MUCH more likely to video only. :P I expect I'll get a bollocking off Karl Borowski for this post, but it was worth it.
