  2. Hi ! I , will be shooting a short film in 15 days, in Hd, using the Sony HDV-Z1 ... It will an interior with tungsten ligths... I want to give the imagen a brown color... asi in Delicatessen or Anything else ( Woody Allen) So, I was thinking to use tobac filter in camera... The thing is, that I am going to loose 1 stop? o 1 1/2 stop? or what? ... My question is... What happens if I manage to get the same colour in post production... so I dismiss the filter... I think it's better using it in camera , always... but I think I will need that stop... and another doubt... If using the filter... how others colors react? what do you recomend me to tell the vestuarist for example... well thanks !!!

  10. I will be shooting in very low temperatures , in the south of Argentina, with a 435 . I know the cold reduces the capacity or performance of batteries .. Do you have any suggestions? cover them with some thermo or isolate material ? or just use them normally? or what?
  11. Hello! Im shooting a comercial with a 435 in S35 for Mexico. They asked us to use a super tv ground glass. My doubt is... what is it? and it is like normal tv 4:3 0r 16:9 ? or what ? I never shot in this format. thanks!
  12. buy a palm , and download the pcam and the pcine softs from www.davideubank.com , its the best, esasier, fast, top! and accurate way. You have all the possibilites here. Tables that you can photocopy from manuals, they never have all the lenses, tne distances that you need. The pcam, calculates whatever you need. Try it !!
  13. What technnics you can recomend, when you are pulling focus on a shot , using a crane?
  14. What a day an, you said it!! it's not common what happened to you, but you managed well. Once I had a similar problem. I received 5 rolls of 1000' of negative film . The external side of some of the film cans had some damage, as if someone had threw them to the floor, hard . The rol inside the tent seemed ok so I tried to load it . But after passing the film , I couldn't push the rol trough the core holder of the mag, it was impossible. Finally y compared it with a used single core , just to found it wasn't round : had an invisible and small deformation . Like an egg . So well, I did the same as you did. But was the only problem I had , since 1998 , when I started...
  15. Hello my name is Matias Nicolas, I am from Buenos Aires, Argentina , I m now working as 1st AC since an year and a half more or less. I usually work in film production, and sometimes in publicity. This year I shot the film of Leonardo Favio, and last year , I shot 5 films ... I also lived in Barcelona , Spain for a couple of years , and made sth like freework in a rental house called service vision . Well I also love my job like the others above ! I love working as a team . I prefer shooting films than publicity or video clips . Good luck !
  16. hello I have an idea, hope it works!!!, why dont we all post our hotmail or yahoo messengers, or web pages , so we can communicate online... well ... lets see what happens...
  17. I love those shots were you have 2 actors , different distance from camera, making a dialogue. Both ar sitting torwards the camera. And you must carry the focus with the talking . I made a couple of those , as focus puller, and enjoyed them, cause you cant miss., and you have a short silence to pull the FF from one to another. Also action takes , handheld camera , were the camerman is running from side to side ..., then he walks toward an actor for a close shot, an the he pan again to the fight .... I love them cause yo cant make mark on the floor, you must trust your eye and experience ! they are so challenging !!
  18. When you have this difficult shots , 85mm, T2, close to the camera , one thing you can do , is to ask for a little help . If you can , do a mechanic rehearsal with te actor. Tell the cameraman to tell you when you miss the focus. Do this with full aperture for 2 reasons : best definition for the cameraman and less DoF for you, to practice . Sometimes, that little out of focus, that generally happens when the actor moves forward or backward's , is compensated when you put the right T-stop ( unless you are working with full aperture!!!) . I always try this when I can. Also you will see the actor's movements , so when ready to shoot , you are more prepared cause you know when did you miss the focus. Another thing you can do, is to put marks on the floor or the table , and ask your 2 assistant to follow the actor's eye with his finger. And the most important thing, if you missed the focus, ask for another one !!!!! it's cheaper !!!!
  19. I worked on 2 films with HD as 1AC, and I did have the problem of the back focus. But I also had another problem. Sometimes, we set the lens scale in the morning , and at midday the scale changed . We reescaled it, and the in the afternoon , was off again . I had this problem in both films . The HD techs, argumented that its a ccd problem : changes position inside te camera with the differences in temperature during the day. So imagine ! I measured the actor's position, and while shooting, the DoP or the Director had to stop, because of out of focus ! So my question is... this problem with te ccd is true? did you had this problem?
