  1. You can get a great musician to make you a track for very little. Get in touch with an experienced musician who's going no where. You trip over them walking down the street.
  2. Wow you must have a fair bit of money to go buying a camera just for running lighting tests. I'd personally buy an extra redhead. See how the film comes out and learn from my mistakes.
  3. Technically speaking perhaps it should have been called a 'Movie Screening'. But no one could really care less. I don't. It's generally only the 'Anti-Digital' that go out of their way to go using the so-called 'correct' terms.
  4. Ok well they're certainly not 'crap'. Whoever's saying they are crap probably doesn't know a huge amount about film. It takes a hell of a lot of time and effort to create and master them movies. I personally hold a lot of respect for the film makers. (Even if they have got way too much time on their hands to go make animations from lego..) And out of interest, when can we expect to see this film you've planned? Is it an animation?
  5. I personally think 65mm is more doomed than 35mm. The trouble with analogue technology is that it's not advancing anywhere near as quickly as digital. This goes for all analogue technology, not just film. All be it analogue is still better, it's only a matter of time. (Having said that... I've seen some examples of the latest digital and they are becoming less noisy than film already)
  6. Innovation chaps ;) innovation... Donnay umbrellas and sellotape.. the future of Hollywood. (It was pouring down..)
  7. Hi. I'm considering buying the Canon 400D along with a 17-85 Canon lens. (About a £900 setup) It's round about 10 megapixels. Thing is an image from the 400D full res comes out as 2592 x 3888. Divide these pixels into say 300DPI and you would just about get a 12 x 8 print. Which, is large, but no where near as big as I thought it would be. Speaking to other photographers, they've managed to squeeze poster sized prints out of 10 megapixels. Which obviously shows that 300DPI printing is more than you need. So, with photographic prints, what is the lowest DPI you would want to go before the pixels started showing? Thanks.
  8. Well the fastest computers known to man are super computers probably working for NASA costing millions of dollars. But I'm assuming you want a fast PC or mac for editing the huge amount of video footage you have. It depends what you want to do, build your own PC, or buy a ready made PC or MAC. If you're are using the computer for 'serious' use, then it may be worth buying one already made. If you want to build one (customize it to your needs and save $$$) then I'd probably go for a new Intel Core Duo 2 2.66 GHz (extreme version if you have the money). The amount of RAM you need is dependant on what video you are editing. If it's DV then about 2GB 1066MHz will do the trick nicely. (Corsair is what I'll be getting) Buying one pre-made gives you the opportunity to take out warranty. And if you have any problems customer support is a phone call away. This is probably better if you're not so savvy with computers. If you want one pre-made then it's just down to what make to go for. Dell are good, just watch out incase they don't explode... http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/laptops/del...ames-182257.php Infact, if you have the money but aren't that savvy with computers, get a MAC. They are fast, reliable and user friendly. They just cost more.

    My parents

I just found this exact same thread on another forum... same user... http://forum.grid.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=20332 Oh and, James Steven Beverly, I'll take what you said into account! thanks.
  10. 'Old School'. 'Memoirs of a Geisha' was boring as hell too.
  11. Ok. Scripts changed. To something I'm almost happy with. What I want to know is, does anybody HERE, on the cinematography forum, want to either act or take up a crew position in the film. We need three men for the acting parts: A 20 to 30 year old to play the main character 'Mason'. A 30 to 40 year old to play the bad guy that gets killed. A 20 to 50 year old to play one of the police men that arrests the main character 'Masson' at the end. (Uniform will be supplied, but we will need to take a few measurement in advance) Even though the main crew positions have been taken, they have only been taken by amateur students, so an assistant who knows what they are doing would be usefull. (Assistant: director, boom operator) Unfortunatelly, AC has already been taken, but we can always leave room for a 2nd AC if you are interested. I'm making the story structure TONIGHT, and will have it uploaded by either tonight or tommorow for you to look at. Script will be done by the end of this week. Just so that you know the film will be shot in and around 'Orpington'. (East London) Film will last about 6 minutes long and will be shot over two days, but the second day of shooting will only require camera and lighting crew, but, you're welcome to come if you want. If you're interested message me through the forum or e-mail me at: ashleysmithd@hotmail.com Thanks. (P.S Take up one of the acting positions and I will love you forever)
  12. 5.1 mixes are generally created in post. You can either mix the on-set sound further or completely to the back, sides, front, or just add extra ambience or sound effects to different positions of the speakers.

    My parents

My parents don't expect anything from me. I would *like* to help them. But they refuse everytime. Which, is good of my parents, although I find that it sometimes puts more strain on me, because I see my Dad working all day everyday, and I know that I could help out, but they won't let me. I won't expect my kids to help me out. The only thing I'll ask from them is that they 1. don't take the pee with using the phone e.t.c and generally running up huge bills and 2. Go to school, and get a good job. (So they can support me when I'm old and decrepped.. joking) And this is one random subject...
  14. It's like the 'Star Wars' kid all over again. (And a lot of crap went down with that star wars kid... he sued his friends for about $250,000, underwent therapy and counselling, an Internet petition to get him into Star Wars Episode 3 received more than 178,000 digital signatures, and out of sympathy an internet fund raiser gave him an iPod and a $2600 gift certificate)
  15. Here's a yet even more realistic possibility -- They have lives.
  16. What I'm saying is, put education first, not film, or anything else. Because you'll end up regretting it one day. Like I am. (Not that I've cocked everything up, it's far from 'too late', I just could have done a lot better) Well, as far as the film industry goes, I personally think qualifications are worth jack. Although, outside of film, I've seen plenty of good results come from going to university and getting a degree. Infact, I've seen better results come from getting a few A-levels than years of experience. Where my Dad works, some of the new people that have been hired haven't got a clue, but already they're above a lot of other people who have been doing it for years. Just because they have a few a-levels. This is the first time I've heard about anyone getting good qualifications and not getting anywhere. I suppose it comes down to how much you expect to be earning. 20k a year is pretty easy, but 30k and over and you're going to be needing *atleast* and honours degree. (I'm personally heading for masters, software engineering)
  17. It's not, A-level Film is pretty easy, it's A-level computing and maths that you want to watch out for. If you want some real advice Matt, get your education sorted. Put if first before film making. Otherwise you end up like me, doing a third year at college when all your mates have gone off to uni. I know I'm probably starting to sound like your parents, but I wish I'd have just put in the extra work at school, I could be in far better places right now.
  18. This is a random note, but I'm writing an essay due in approximately 11 hours from now, have a look if you want and tell me what you think, I have the rest of tonight to finish it, so it looks like a long night. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bas/How%20the...o%20Realism.doc (I'll reply to the on-topic comments when I have time)
  19. I'd personally be in favour of that. I mean, where better to take the money from. Perhaps tobacco prices will rise to a point where people just either can't afford to smoke or are too uptight to pay out they money for it. The reason I smoke is because it's cheap, I smoke hand made rollups which costs me about £3 a week, roughly $4. I'd smoke normal cigarettes, but it's too expensive. If prices were to suddenly rise, I'd sure as hell give up. (my addiction is no match for my uptightness) And even though 10% of the money is going towards smoking related illnesses, the other 90% is still going towards good use. I wish England would do something like that. (Aswell as raise the age limit from 16 to 18, atleast)
  20. Hi. I know how the green/blue screen process works, keying, tracker markers e.t.c. But I noticed in a music video I watched today that the focus changed through a shot, and the false digital background also changed focus. Is it just a case of constantly digitally matching the focus of the background with everything else? Or is there something else involved that I've missed out? Focus, marker? Just kidding. Thanks.
  21. Sounds harsh... you ever find out who it was? Well, I suppose it's better in a way that they smashed it up as opposed to just taking it. For reasons that: 1. It would be pain me more than anything to see a group of butthole chavs getting away with a £1200 camera. 2. Depending on the insurance, they might have covered damage, but not theft. Meaning you wouldn't have been able to get a replacement. To be honest though, sometimes it may be worth giving them what they want. Because you never know what kind of a nutter they are. When you refused to give it to them, they may have stabbed and killed you, you never know. And no object is worth your life. They can be replaced, you can't. Not that I ever really took that advice in myself.. I was just lucky.
  22. Nice edit. Makes me laugh everytime I see that video.
  23. Maybe it's just the new generation of film.
  24. This is what I mean by when I compare it to some of the neo-realism films of the 50/60's. I mean, the story line is pretty basic, as were the story lines from neo-realism films. So, both films do not cut it as a hollywood standard, but they are detracting away from that to show what life is really like. Like you, I can compare Kidulthood to real life, that makes it all the more powerfull. And I'm sure the majority of kids in England could aswell. This is why I don't agree with the rating on imdb. Because this film really hit the spot and far as showing what life is like in England.
