  1. I wish you could share that weed!
  2. To me limited knowledge, there are no crystal sync Super 8 cameras per se. I read somewhere that the one that have flash synchro can be connected to devides that keep the camera in sync. Who knows? I own the Elmo 1012 with a crystal sync attachment by The Film Group. The funny thing is that I have never used the sync sound features of my camera.
  3. I own an Elmo 1012 and I need a lot of handheld footage for a film. Has anyone tried making a camera shoulder support, a follow focus and a barney for Super 8? I know it sounds crazy but I want to do all these by myself or adapt existing used equipment. I'll appreciate any help!
  4. I was looking around eBay and I found some Gossen Luna Pro meters but some need special batteries and I don't want to deal with voltage changes and the like. I found a good Sekonic (L-398A Studio Deluxe is it fancy name) but I was wondering if there's another one within that price range or if I need badly the spot meter? Any thought will be very appreciated!
  5. Come to a Mexican antiques bazars. Sometimes they beat eBay auctions!. Once I saw a Bolex on 100 bucks! They got it listed as a video camera!!! Although once I saw another on 2,000 smackers! For that I can get a great ACL package. Russian K3s are fine too if you don't want to invest a lot. Check for dishonest sellers though!
  6. Of course the prices raise in the lab but if you plan to experiment justo for the fun of it, processing your own film is fun, it's like a very big fetuccini! For a more professional job I wouldn't count on that! My Lomo tanks are getting dust all over them anyway but for the occasional DIY are OK. PS: I just deal with B&W, colour is a mess and it never comes good in my own experience.
  7. Once on the web I saw some pictures from a guy who built a housing from an aquarium. Of course it was made out of glass, which of course not qualifies as light for surf but maybe you can try to look for an Ewa-Marine old housing. I bought one for a Super 8 camera but I guess you can find one for Bolex if there was something like that in the market. Here is the image from the Ewa-Marine site itself:
  8. Hey, how can I mark the ground glass on the K3's VF so I can frame correctly for 1,85:1 or 1,66:1? I saw a Super 16 gate for the K3 selling for nearly 200 bucks but I feel it like a risky practice since the VF will still be on 1,33:1 hence framing blindly! Thanks!
  9. Does anybody know whatever happened to Lloyd's Camera Exchange in LA on Cahuenga and Hollywood? I loved that store and it simply vanished!!!
  10. Does anyone know about a good dealer of recans and short-ends in the LA area? And by good I mean honest! Thanks a lot!
  11. You're right! I've been seeing on eBay lots of Marantz tape recoerders and its prices are on the roof! I can recommend the Marantz PMD-660 Compact Flash recorder or the Zoom H4 SD card recorder. The first has a price tag of around 400 bucks and the latter 300 bucks. Both have XLR inputs. It is said, in a thread I started on the Sound department that the Marantz has a better mic preamp, whatever that means!
  12. Here are my 2 cents: Since I was a little child, my uncle used to film my cousins and I on Super 8 and then project the resulting rolls on family gatherings. Besides, my dad had a Brazilian 16 mm projector and I still can remember my 7th. birthday and I guess it was my only real party and my father showed his motivational films to all my guests. I guess the messages was not really understood since I am not a better person but I loved and felt overwhelmed by the moving images. Film is in my blood! I shot my first 7277 way back ten years ago. It was one of the first VISION films that came to the market to replace the EXR family. I borrowed an Arri S that had trouble threading the film on a 400 ft. magazine so it cut the film several times. After the film was processed, my reaction was that of Colonel Kurtz: THE HORROR! It turns out that the film was completely overexposed. Later I found out the DoP never had any experience with film and I was an ignorant myself. The emulsion was facing the lens!!! Besides I didn't know what emulsion was back then!!! Another DoP told me that particular emulsion was very delicate and he was suprprised Kodak never told me about it. I never found out if he was telling the truth or said that just to calm me down. Anyway I started to hate those Kodak guys and I raised money to shoot again. Then I shot on Fuji 500T film with a borrowed Bolex and it came out perfectly. Then I became a video guy for a while. Sorry film brotherhood!!! I was sooooo wrong. Now I am on my path again and the local Kodak people helped me a lot now that they are different than the other guys. I shoot on Super 8 mainly but I am trying to recover my K3. I love film and 16 mm is so noble I hope to keep using it for a while!
  13. There was a company in NYC that sold matte boxes called MKA (or something like that) but I guess they went out for business since this was in the mid-90's. I don't think they were original ones but adapted to the K3. Now the question is: is that a video-assist in the pictures??? If so, how is it possible on a K3???
  14. Hello, I have been trying to get information on the battery that fits the lightmeter on the K3. In some sites it appears as the RZ-55 or the PX640 but I have never found accurately which one is it. Can someone tell me which is it? Can I get a Wein zinc-air replacement without the need for an adapter? What's the correct voltage 1.35 or 1.5V? Thanks a lot!

  16. So, in theory, can I shoot dialogue in sync?
  17. Hey Steve Hyde! Where did you get that amazing lens??? Even the baby bottle nipple looks great!
  18. I bought mine for around 200 bucks but the guy who sold me that one ripped me off since the lenses mount came broken andit lacked lots of accesories. I wouldn't mind paying more if I get a better deal.
  19. How about the same masking for the Russian K3?
  20. Anyway, whether it's Regular 16 (lovely!), Super 16, Ultra 16 or even Super 8, I think we all (at least myself!) think FILM ROCKS!
  21. I like to build things for my cameras, I am waiting for my K3 too but I want to build a motor. Can you share like diagrams or so? I am also worried since the K3 purrs like an overgrown cat. It has been discussed, but how can one cope with the noise? PS: You just lost me when you started talking about HD! ;)
  22. I had a nice experience with old Kodachrome. I bought 15 carts for a buck each. The film expired like 15 years and I shot it in the late 1990's so I could register my son's growing up. The film came as expected with some colour and contrast deterioration but tell me, what video format can handle that??? I even processed the film in a drugstore in San Ysidro, CA and then in the local Wal-Mart. The film had sound so I'll have my son's first steps and words for a while. Too bad Kodachrome is dead! :(

Can anyone tell me something about this camera? I have seen it on eBay. It looks cool and all but I am afraid if it works fine or if it can shoot sync dialogue. They seem like a good deal but I'm not sure. Thanks!
  24. In fact, all my experience is on 16 mm and I turned to Super 8 just for the fun of it. I've never shot Super 16 before. I just love film and I don't want to shoot video on this trip.
  25. Well, I thought about it for a trip to the Vietnamese and Cambodian jungle. What pisses me a little is the WIDE 9mm. Or I should move to Super 8?
