  1. Thanks Hal, thats actually a really good idea. I can buy some bulk foam from Chinatown and shave it to fit the actress. I only need to sell the pregnancy for the master shot so that might do the trick!
  2. Hah I dont think we have quite that much time...however the guy playing her husband is her fiance...so it might all work out for the best!
  3. I've got a short scene in a short film I have coming up with a pregnant woman. Now most of the time I have seen pregnant women in shorts it never really looks all that real. I'm doing this on a super low budget so I dont want to spend too much $$ for what is essential one shot. SHould I just roll up a bunch of clothes, or perhaps fill a baloon with water and gaff tape it around her torso??
  4. I think I would rather rent/buy a camera from a company whose reps dont have useless arguments with people on message boards.
  5. Im pretty sure that Once Upon a Time in Mexico was "Shot and chopped" by Rodriquez. Im glad he made up for that crap with Planet Terror!
  6. But really...why Showtime of all places? I hope its going to come out on DVD or play on a screen in NYC so I can check this out!
  7. I love PWNY! Mona Jackson is an amazing woman and always gives great deals if your on a budget! They transferred all of my footage to digi beta and ghosted it to mini dv for a price less than listed for just the beta transfer!
  8. I might talk myself out of using this for several reasons: -I'm going to direct and dp and I will likely tend to use alot of wide shots (since ive just finished most of my storyboards) Why use the 35mm to just stick wide lens on it. -I can put that money towards feeding the crew and getting some better props and locations -we will be shooting in several low light exteriors -Im going to direct/DP as well as pull focus most of the time Now if I can only find someone in NYC who will rent me a huge 70's clunker caddy for a week! Thanks for all of your input.
  9. So Im shooting an ultra low budget short in June on my friends HVX and Im wondering if renting the PS Technic or M2 Redrock is really worth the extra cash. As is I can do the short for three grand since I wont need insurance for everything that Im renting...BUT...if I get the adapter and lenses with insurance its going to cost me two grand extra easy! Luckily I wont have to pay any interest on my credit card for another 10 months or so but do you think it will really make a huge difference? Im assuming that whatever format I shoot it on wont matter if Im telling a good story, but Im torn between paying off the extra few grand or shooting another low budget short in the fall.
  10. Very true...when I saw this in SXSW I didnt realize it was shot in HD until the Q+A. The story gets a bit formulaic in the last few reels but a good film.

  12. I'm going to be submitting a short to the film/video arts board for a grant proposal. Has anyone had any success with them in NYC? I'm trying to put together funding for the film, and if their board gives me one will it be for 1/2 of my budget, 1/3? Please let me know if anyone has worked with them in the past.
  13. Not to mention that LEGALLY they need to have red wine available for the crew during meal breaks in France. Thats all there is to it, im moving...
  14. I think that makes the most sense...I was going to go pretty wide with the hood mount shots anyway. I also spoke to a guy who will cut me a deal and rent me his HVX plus a small HD camera that I could easily use in the hood mount...
  15. Anyone have any success stories using a carmount with the HVX and the M2? Im really afraid of using the sticky pod and Im trying to not have to build a DIY rig. Any info would be a huuuge help!
  16. Why not take a polecat extend it and mount the ends in clamps on the c-stands? I've done this before also by using extra arms btw two stands in a pinch, but it made me really nervous!
  17. Sooo the AC of a shoot I was on accidentally recorded not in the p2 format on the firestore, so we had to hook it up to my computer to act as the camera to import the 180i24p footage we recorded as a non-controllable device. Everything we got was synced in the beginning and then slipped out within a few seconds. Has anyone had this same issue?
  18. How many Nazi survivors of WWII are still alive today? And do we persecute them for following such an evil leader? That is a very interesting part of German history, how quickly these Nazis got reassimilated back into the society. Only the biggest war criminals ever got put on trial, as prosecuting every single member of the Nazi party (about 8 Million if my memory serves correctly) would have been impossible. The fact that that whole past got swept under rug is something that created huge tensions in German society later on, as the descendants of these people became aware of the previous generations' past and started asking some hard questions. If it wasnt for the German scientists that were imported to the US after the war we would have never had a succesful space program!
  19. Thanks for your feedback! I already have extended that moment where we meet Adolf since there was a line from that moment that I cut out of the film. Good call with the crowd chanting Ill see if I can find that anywehre online. Ill think about taking out the JFK moment, but it was one of my favorite parts from the short story so Ill probably keep that one in. I think it helps to show that this is a cynical not serious film.
  20. I caught a screening of this at MOMA the other day and Verhoeven was there himself for a Q&A afterwards. I think this film is by far his masterpiece and certainly his most mature work. I was very surprised to see the credits of the DP who shot Independence Day, Maid in Manhattan and many other purely commercial films... I cant wait to see this again...was anyone able to catch it?
  21. I wouldn't worry about pushing it really...I shot on a street in Brooklyn with nothing but a few of the streetlights with 7218 and a superspeed lens that opened up to 1.3 Everything came out perfect looking...and I imagine the lights on the skyline would be ok to shoot wide open without pushing it and bringing up the grain. Do you have any time to shoot tests?
  22. Bump.... It looks like our program for the March show will be "sexy shorts" so if you have anything that you feel will be appropriate send it in! Anything else I will hold for consideration for our April screening! thanks all...
  23. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lTR5VcaPgI heres the latest cut, i reworked the opening limo scene and i think it works much much better.... lemme know what you all think.

Our opening show at Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn was standing room only and we are looking for American films for our show towards the end of March. Your film is accepted could also be played in any of the FutureShorts programs in Europe. In London alone they do nine screenings per month! If anyone is interested in submitting a film (its free) please PM me or email @ rob.m.neilson@gmail.com and I can forward you my mailing address.
