  1. I use to fudge the infinity collimation on those lenses. That is I adjusted it just shy of infinity to the point that I knew it would reach it even wide open.
  2. Hello Charles, The Angenieux 10mm made for 16mm use was a fixed focus lens. So was the 5.9mm. Chuck
  3. Well there you go. I read on the Zellan web site that they custom scaled their footage rings, but it didn't say anything about the aperture. That was for the primes, there was no mention of the zooms. Thanks, Chuck
  4. Hey Stephen, Ever hear back from the Cooke guy about "T" stopping on their lenses? Chuck

  6. I believe the Zeiss lenses on home camcorders are just Zeiss designs and are not fabricated by them. Same with the Schneider zoom on my little Kodak digital still camera.
  7. The LOMO optical works in Russia have and still do produce some of the finest optical air spaced tripplets for astronomical use ever made. And if they are good enough for Thomas Black of TMB telescopes they should be respected. The company producing the "Elite" series of motion picture lenses is also very well respected. So please try and show those commie pinko bastards there due. lol
  8. What format? Body only? Silent or MOS? Reflex or non reflex? etc. etc.
  9. Hi Phil, HOLY FONG! Your Mandrill footage is amazing. The wide closeup of the male picking berries is something else. Those puppies have some big teeth and I would be alot more concerned about them then a bear. (Grizzlys and Polars excluded) Very nice site you got there. Chuck
  10. Hey Toby, Since you got the jerky pan thing down, you could get a job in th U.S. shooting one of the many cop and detective shows here that seem to specialize in that type of camera movement. Toss in in a bunch of jumpy zoom shots and your there. I like to call it "Barf Cam". I think it helps if one has an extreme hangover and a case of the DTs. The little O'Connors are nice and you can buy parts for them. Chuck
  11. Some lenses are sharper then others. LOL Sorry, couldn't help myself. Seems like there are some people at this site (see below) that know what they are talking about. http://www.cinematography.net/Pages%20DW/W...eNodalPoint.htm
  12. Mitch, I poked around Fauers Film & Digital Times site and looked thru issues 2-4 but didn't see any info except for a brief discription of the S4's and the New 15-45 zoom. Thanks though
  13. Mitch & Stephen, Thank you both. Chuck

  15. It's been done for years by large format photographers by using a combo of front and rear standard movements. Can't recall the name of the technique, but it's something like the "Schlempenfluger rule" lol
  16. Hi Mitch, I would be very interrested in reading your source that says every Cooke prime is individually marked for T stops. Thanks, Chuck
  17. Nick I take it that a gif is the moving image (yes I am a complete computer idiot). No right click on the mouse here, as it is an Apple. Thanks anyways. Chuck
  18. Hi Nick, Where did you ge the video of the moving Mithcell movement? That is just too cool. You should use it for an Avatar. And if you aren't, can I? LOL Chuck
  19. What Adam said. And keep in mind that a zoom lens has a front AND back focus adjustment that must be set up right or the lens won't hold focus as you zoom.
  20. You can always add a heavier base plate between the head and you camera body to put it into the sweet range for a given head. The model 100 is way over kill though.
  21. Tony, I don't know where your located, but Panavision has, or use to anyways, an intern program at their facilitie in L.A. Don't know about their other locations. This might be a way to learn some basics but if you want to make a career out of it , that will take many years to become profecient in the ways of fine mechanics and optics. Chuck
  22. Ooops Of course. I was thinking N.D. numbers insted of the reciprocal of the square (half as much/twice as much) Sorry that I caused confusion.
  23. I think the 1.9mm was for Super Eight.
  24. My bad.. Got stuck in 35 format land. lol Didn't know there were Super Baltars made for 16
