  7. Hi!! the best thing to do on compositing is to match grain, not to add. after effects have a match grain plugin whre you have a source layer, and the target. and the target layer will emulate the grain of the source. try it! bests! GT

  10. Hi!! is kind of late for this reply but here i go i just finish a documentary post, all was done in apple pro res HQ HD. is kinda cool if youre ending in tape HD or SD what is the case od this documentary. comparing with uncompressed is good but not for film out. apple pro res is an intermediate codec, not a high end one. even uncompressed is not as good for film out. bests! 14. Hi!! you can rock the frame in postproduction that is 1st option 2nd you can shake the camera, my way is to have camera F set to 1.9 or the lower value you have and compensate with ND for exposure. when you shake the camera do it fast and in short tracks, make a test you can see that effect in a video clip i direct time ago link: http://vimeo.com/3183285 bests! 15. Hi! as paul said it depende on the scan resolution. i sacn to 6k s16mm and you can see the grain, the native grain. we finally print in 35mm and the grain is the same for my eye. the point is that the print stock are really fine grain!! bests! GT
  16. the motivated cut refers to a cut that have a motive, could be because an actor looks in one direction and you cut to a shot showing this set up. or could refer to a cut that is motivated by and emotion or reaction that will need a cut to increase or decrease drama. this way of cutting is opposed to cut in action or mathematical cuts. could me motivated by music times. all this refers to Emotional versus Physical continuity i recomend you to red thw following link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_editing bests! 17. Andrew, Because SD DVD will be compressed 720x480 for standard monitore i recomend to render all youre clips to DV NSTC 720x480. youre gonna loss quality in youre HD clips but at the end the DVD will compress all. at the edn youre gonna have good results using 2 pass encoding in dvd authoring soft. bests! 22. Hi!! asuming the camera runs at 24 fps and the sound recorder goes 24 frames per second too the best way is to capture the mini dvs as it is, 29.97 ntsc and the pass all youre media trough cinema tools reverse telecine to convert the clips to 24fps. do not overwrite the original clips if you have hard drive space. best wishes! 24. Hi!! just keep in mind the following: you can shot in color and then de-saturate everything for plate A and have a color plate B. then in composition you need to rotoscope the elements you want in color and them place this elements over the B&W plate.but the effects is really different if you shoot in B&W, rotoscope the elements you want in color and then paint them digitally using color multiply. color multiply is the blending mode used for add color to the photo restore process in still image using adobe photoshop, after effects or the soft you have handy. if the sequence isnt too long you can try this and you will have a different look that shooting in color. best wishes! GT
  25. Hi!! mokey for sure is not digital effects. could be a steady cam or hand held and the stabilize with shake smooth-cam, final cut smooth-cam or planar tracker. or could be a remote control helicopter and the the same process as steady cam. you can't to this digital on 2D like after effects vanishing point, could be done in 3D soft but the texture is so real that i couldn't believe is made digital. bye!
