Hi!! you can do almost everything in after effects and in the cs4 with the addition of mocha plannar tracker is a better program. but not all the vfx can be done all in after effects, mostly is a combination of 3D, motion tracker, 2D and matte painting. here in mexico were using autodesk toxik, it work really well in terms of integration with other programs, is not too expensive and works fine in a desktop computer below 4K usd bye! Hi!! it seem like when the k-3 have loop problems. i dont know the cannon scoopic but seemd to be a plate and loop problem like all the guys in the forum told you. you can try to fix it a little. for stabilization y recommend mokey or some kind of soft that have a planar tracker not point tracker. and for the frames that have out of focus areas or uneven focus you can try to fix it manually masking out this parts and restore with previous or next frame or you can try virtual dub deshaker. bye! Goin eSata on a Macbook Pro
Andres Pardo aka Gral Treegan replied to Jeremy Drake's topic in Post Production
estata is faster than firewire 800, if you have a fast hard drive with esata port you can run HD uncompressed footage with it and with a firewire 800 you cant do that. bye! GT -
in theory theres no difference, in the real life theres difference ... im sure of that. im gonna post pic during weekend. GT

Hi there!! the difference between AJA - BLACKMAGIC is just the compression algorithm, the way they order the information packs. in my 10 years of working with video cards i could say that no matter what kind of video card you use if youre planning a big postproduction/key/matte painting/3d composite go for a flame, flint or smoke capture. i dont know why but the information that this suites handle are far better than any video card that you could buy under 5K working with green screen footage i found that capturing with blackmagic the keylight works better than capturing with aja. bye! Hi!! Here is General Treegan from Mexico City! Im working in a new project that is gonna end in a 35mm print, a one minute commercial for Cemex. Everything is gonna be shooted in S16mm and some shots with Panasonic P2. Were gonna have a remote control helicopter shooting day and this helicopter holds a Sony AVC HD, i dont know the model of the camera but the format is the same in every avc hd cameras. My question is if this cam have enough quality to end in a 35mm print, the camera is 1920x1080 but it compress a lot. Anyone do that? have anyone ever do a print from this format? thats all, im gonna post footage and comments when the shot is donde. thanx! GT

hi!! i suposse oure not have the budget for a motion control so... you can do it in postproduction ramping the speed of the shot or you can do it on camera. if you have a k-3 you can do it moving the speed knob. bye! G.T

Best 16mm stock for noir Black & White
Andres Pardo aka Gral Treegan replied to David Auner aac's topic in 16mm
Hi dave!! im not a DP first of all but i always use the following stock: 16mm Kodak 7222 Double-X Black & White Negative Daylight 250ASA Tungsten 200ASA and then with color correction you can get what you want. i have some stock of a film that i bought in ebay years ago, is REGISCOPE, the boxes dont tell anything else that that, i expose this rolls at asa200 and 400 and looks fantastic. i dont know if theres available anymore, i bought 50 100feet spools around 4 years ago and never heard of that kinf of film again. but maybe ith a goog google search you can find it. the final look with no color correction i a good contrast picture with detail in the hole frame. i recomend for processing the following lab: http://blackandwhitefilmfactory.com/ bestwishes!! Green object in the frame...
Andres Pardo aka Gral Treegan replied to John Harrison's topic in Visual Effects Cinematography
Hi!! of course you can use a postcart with green (green like a green screen) athe front of the postcard, where de pic must be and dont forget the tracking point so you can do a 3D track and the compse the image there. a goo idea is to compose the image with some paper texture so it looks like a real postcart. anyway youre gonna have two ptions to do that 1- put green with tracking points. that way youre gonna be able to compose that shots in after effects, shake or kind of flame suits. the ting is that if the fingers of the guy holding the postcart are touching the green his finger will copy green so in the final copmpose youre gonna need to color correct his hand. 2- you can use a plain postcart with tracking points with NO green. that wy youre gonna need to rotoshape the poscart, its kind a squeare so theres no problem with it and rotoshape the fingers. anyway... howlong is gonna be that shot? that way the hand will no need color correction to substract green. i hope it helps! i run alittle postproduction company here in mexicoc ity and we deal with that kind of footage every day so feel free to ask! best wishes!! Andres Pardo aka Gral Treegan replied to Jaco Jansen's topic in Visual Effects Cinematography
Hi!! i think is a hot air ballon. why? if you see planet earth bbc show you will find that when the zoom lens goes wider the shot is taken at a big big height. theres a shot that camera is following a polar bear in a "close" shot, camera start to open until we have an amazing extra panoramic full full shot where the polar bear is just a litlle thing. please rent or buy that dvd boz, is amazing!!!! bye!! Color vignetting in transfered footage...
Andres Pardo aka Gral Treegan replied to Ryan McMackin's topic in Post Production
Hi!! i recomend you to do the following tests: 1- ask the telecine house to show you the footage witn no grading at all 2- ask them to mount the rolls with that deffect in another telecine 3- ask them to scan just few frames what telecine is the one you use for it? cose it feels like the telecine tube is dying. bye!!
