  1. You wish use Kransogorsk-3 with steadicam ? I don't know, K-3 good choose for steadicam. I have a some experience use of professional steadicam with 16 mm, 35 mm cine cameras. At first, Kranosgorsk-3 have mechanical spring motor, can shoot 25..30 sec with full loading of spring. You need re-loading of spring after 25..30 sec of shooting ? Kransogrosk have mechanical start-stop trigger, you will need long cable release. Krasnogorsk have not wide lenses, Meteor-5 zoom lens on 17 mm, have not too high wide angle. The 6 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm lenses work better. Yes, You can take Karsnogrosk-3 with bayonet mount and set 10 mm prime lens from SP-16 or 12 mm from Kransnogorsk-1 I had not experience to use K-3 with steadicam, but, i worry about change balancing of camera at shooting. All cameras for steadicam must have rolls of film with vertical installation. Any other instalations of roll of film can change balancing of camera. Yes, the 30 m of 16 mm film have not big weight, and this problem can not be inportant, but, will need think about this too. The balance very important for steadicam shooting. What you will control of image ? K-3 have not video assistance. You will need set video assistance. This is not easy procedure for K-3. K3 have long distance viewfiner. You can set external CCD camera with lens with similar angle of view and adjust position of CCD camera like image from cine camera, but, you need think about parallax. I think, for steadicam need cine camera with electrical motor and video assistance. I think, you need draw attention on: Kiev-16 UE , electrical motor, 30 m film spools, have 12 mm lens Kiev-16 E very small cine camera with electrical motor, C-mount, 30 m film magazine, can use any wide lens with C-mount. Professional Kinor-16 SX-2M, electrical motor, 30 m film magazine, prime lenses 6 mm, 10 mm, 15 mm... Professional Eclair ACL, electrical motor, CA, C- mount.
  2. Hi Allyn At first, need know type of films, B&W reversal, color reversal Ektachrome or KodakChrome, or OrwoChrome. The B&W reversal, Ektachrome Orwochrome can be process at spiral tanks with doubling time of a few steps of processing. And you will have not bad result. If you wish know more about home film processing, you can visit of my site. If you will have more questions, can ask me.
  3. Kinor-35S ( C ) have more big body with more sound protection, that's why, S have 28 Db. Kinor-35H have more modern view of body, less size and weight and 32 Db. The many user of Kinor-35 set new modern microprocessor control with multi speed crystal sync control. Kinor have many accessories, base plate with rods, follow focus, video assistance, 150 m, 300 m film magazines, normal and anamoprhic sets of lens hoods, wide set of film gates and ground glasses. Frankly speaking, the many fiction films use technology of dubbing of sound tack on professional sound recoding studio, that's why, can be use cameras with big volume of noise ( like Arri 435).
  4. The russian 35 mm cine cameras for sync sound shooting have : Kinor-35S - 28 Db Kinor-35H - 32 Db Era-2COS - 26 Db
  5. I can not tell you about Eyemo camera, but, can answer about russian copy of Eyemo camera - AKS-1. AKS-1 35 mm cine camera with mechanical spring motor, one lens mount and 100 ft daylight spools. A some time ago, i prepare this camera for real shooting and can confirm good technical design of this camera. My friend use AKS-1 for shooting of footages and confirm me a good qulaity of footages. This camera can run 20..30 sec at 24 fps with full load spring. The camera have short flange focal distance of lens mount, that's why, you can design lens adapter or lens mount for many type of photo ( Nikon, Canon, Carl Zeiss ) and cine ( Arri PL, Arri standard, BNCR ) lenses. This camera not need battery, charger, main power. But, i must underline, this is old camera and need detailed service and design debugging The other low price 35 mm cine camera Konvas-1, Konvas-1M. This is camera have reflex system, electrical motor with rheostat or electronics speed control, 200 ft or 400 ft quick set film magazines, turret for set prime or zoom lenses.
  6. I recommend check a 16 mm russian professional cine camera Kinor-16 SX-2M, This is reflex camera with electrical motor, 100 ft, 400 ft quick set film magazines, wide set of prime lenses from 6 mm up to 300 mm, zoom lenses 7.5-75 mm, 10-100mm, 12-120 mm. The electrical motor have one speed 25 fps with stabilization and can be modify on multi speed, crystal sync motor. You can check russian Krasnogorsk-1, this is camera like K-3, but, with metal film cartridge and bayonet lens mount. Can use 10 mm, 12,5 mm, 15mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 50 mm, 75 mm prime lenses, or zoom lenses 17-69 mm or modified professional 16 OPF-12 7.5-75 mm, 10-100 mm. Kiev-16 UE camera, reflex, 100 ft daylight spools, electrical motor witha few speed ( electro-mechanical system of speed stabilization ) have frame and length film counter, forward and reversal film run, turret for 3 lenses 12.5 mm, 20 mm, 50 mm. Alpha-16, with semi-transparent mirror, C-mount, 100 ft daylight spools, mechanical motor, a few speeds, small size and weight. The images and technical information about this camera, you can see on my sites.
  7. I think, you need take russian LOMO tank and make experiments with processing at E-6 chemistry. Yes, The old films not hold high temeprature of E-6 processing, but, you need test this film with normal E-6 temeprature and low temperature 35 degree. I make a some test with old films Russian Svema CO-50 D, ORWO UT-15, use E-6 chemistry and technology, temperature 25 C and have not bad result. Yes, of course, this is not modern Kodak Ektachrome quality of picture, but, not bad too. I think, you have one way of processing of old film - home process on spiral tank.
  8. I use handmade dolly and crane and can tell you a few my ideas. I think, the sketboard wheels - toy. I use 16 wheels, but, this is iron body, two ball bearing on one wheel, wheel have ruber outside. The polyurethane outside must work good too, but, i not test. Outside diameter of wheel 50 mm, the rail - aluminum pipe 40 mm The track of wheel must be from metal - you will have good inertia and The track must have high precision of position of wheels. I set a rubber gasket from support car shock-absorber between track and chassis. Any case, If the dolly have big weight, the move will more stability. The good seller of wheels : "Blickle rader+Rollen Gmbh". Thay have big set of wheels. The next question - harshness of rail and interfacing of rails.
  9. Hi Stephen Check information about russian modern lenses Elite Optic. The many film makers use this lenses and have very good opinion about quality.
  10. Full agree . If you have the similar size of object on the negative ( ground glass ) with difference lenses ( difference focal lenth ) and difference of distance of focusing, the DoF will have constant volume. I know this and use this at my work. But, this work good for close-up shots and a some for medium shots I have a few data chart for difference ratio of size of subject and size on the negative. This is russian data chart with point of unsharpness 0.032mm 35 mm lenses If we have ratio 1:25 ( close-up ) lenses 18...150 mm, DoF F2.0 DoF 0.078m...0.0785 m, F4.0 0.1560..0.1562m F8.0 0.3132...0.3510m the ratio 1:100 ( medium shot ) lenses 18..100 mm DoF F2.0 1.22..1.37m F4.0 18 mm 4.36m, 25 mm 3.14m 35...100 mm 2.75...2.46m F8.0 18 mm - infinity, 25 mm 61.84m 35 mm 6.3m, 50...100 mm 5.37..5.14m the ratio 1:200 ( general plan)DoF F2.0 18 mm 8.68m, 25 mm-6.27m, 35 mm-5.46m 50..100mm 5.12..4.90m F4.0 18 mm- infinity, 25mm-123m, 35mm-18.21m, 50 mm-12.83m 75...100 mm, 10.24m F8.0 18 mm- infinity, 25mm-infinity 35mm-infinity, 50 mm-246m, 75 mm-32.68m, 100 m- 25.07mm ( i hope, this information can be interesting)
  11. Hi Stephen. Thank you for your answer. I wish underline, i had not idea to show of full theory of DoF at one short letter. I know not West theory of DoF and can told about russian theory of DoF only. The russian book have many pages with diagrams of theory DoF. And DOF have nonlinear dependence with focal distance of lens, with objective aperture (T), from distance of focusing, very small distance of focusing, normal of macro lens. The DoF calculation must take account of additional lens extension at focusing and many other factors. But, this is theory and you have not free time make complex calculation on shooting area. That's why, The use of data chart of lens manufacturer will better. I can agree, but partly. The base formula of DOF from theory ( i can not show formula correct on text) of DoF for Zoom lens and prime lens full similar. You correct. The formula use distance of focusing - distance between optical centre ( base point )of lens and subject. And need to take note of geometrical size of optical system, because, real lens have front and rear optical centre. But, I use DoF table of lens from real distance of focusing of lens, the distance between film plane and subject. I think, you mean additional lens extension with focusing on disfference distances at calculatiion of DoF by formula. The zoom lens and prime lenses have difference length of optical scheme, difference distance between front and rear base optical point and lens extension will difference too. But, from other side. The distance of focusing of lens for any prime and zoom lens - distance between film plane and subject of shooting and printed on lens. This is distance included distance between subject and front optical point + distance between front and rear optical point of lens + distance between rear optical point and film plane. The data chart of DoF of lens show me distance of focusing lens from film plane, not from optical centre of lens. That's why, if we compare data chart of lenses with distance of focsuing of lens, this digital included all geometrical size of this lens. Yes, the many lenses are marked in T stops. The mechanical aperture ( F ) - design value, depend from size of lens. The effective value of lens aperture ( T ) = F- ( negative profit of volume of light inside lens ). The negative profit of light inside lens have small volume, that's why, you can use F for calculate DoF. You told all Correct, yes, the " Simple lens theory ignores this and assumes a 'thin' lens. " That's why need use a data chart of DoF of manufacturer of lens, but, if i have not this data, i use similar or other simply calculation. If you have other simply way, i will happy to use this too.
  12. I think, you need begin from russian 16 mm cameras, this can be Kransogorsk-3 ( $150..250) or professional qulity Kinor-16 SX-2M ) ($750..1250).
  13. I don't know, what version of comparison can be correct. 35 mm and Super 16 lenses with one focal distance or 35 mm and Super 16 lenses with one angle of view. If i take Cooke Super 16 zoom lens on 25 mm position of zoom and 1 meter of focus, and T5.6 the DOF distance 0,933....1.079 m ( Russian DOF 0.88...1.15 m) Distagon 24mm Arri35, focus - 1 m, T5.6 DOF 0.872...1.322 m ( russian DOF 0.79...1.37 m ) If i take formula 16 mm DOF = 35mm DOF - 2 stops, 24 mm Distagon Arri 35 - 1 m T2.8 DOF 0.939....1.148 m The DOF 0.938...1.075 have T2.0 ( - 3 stop) But, i not check this formula with other lenses and other distance of focus. If we take lenses with similar angle of view 25 mm ( 16 mm )angle 23.8' 50 mm ( 35 mm ) angle 23.4' Planar 50 mm Arri35, focus- 1 m, T5.6 , DOF 0.968...1.057 m You can see, if you take 16 mm lens and 35 mm lens with similar angle of view, you can have near resemblance pf DOF, or use formula -2 ( -3 ) stops. ( I write this formula on my note book. Thank ) But, the better, if you have DOF data chart of Super 16 lens.
  14. Hi. Very important and necessary question. If you shoot, you need know sharpness depth of field distance of lens. I use DOF table for calculatioon. But, i have DOF table of 35 mm prime lenses from Arri site. ( very good technical information ). A some small table of 35 mm Cooke S4, Table of DOF for Super 16 Cooke zoom lens 9-50 mm. But, i have not DOF tables for Super 16 prime lenses. If you know, Where i can load DOF table for Super 16 prime lenses, please, help me. From technical side, The use of DOF tables from 35 mm prime lenses with Super 16 lenses not possible, because, 35 mm DOF tables calculate of point of unsharpness ( Cooke 0.001 in= 0.025 mm, russian engineering standard 0.03 mm,). The DOF tables of Super 16 lenses must use point of unsharpness 0.0005in = 0.0127 mm ( russian engineering standard 0.015mm ).
  15. Вы знаете русский язык ? 29 EPSS electrical motor of Kinor-16 SX camera have generator of Pilot- Signal . 29 EPSS motor have two connectros, the first - power connector, the second - Pilot Signal connector. The Pilot signal connetcor have 4 pins : pin 4, pin 2 - Pilot signal 50 Hz ( with speed 25 fps ) amplitude 1.5 v.+/- 0.2v on resistor 150 Ohm. pin 4 pin 3 - start signal + 10v by resistor. pin 1 "-12v" If you need connect sound recorder Nagra-1, Nagra 4.2 you need set start signal from motor connector ( pins 4, 3 ) to connector :"pilot" of recored ( pins 1, 2, pin 1- ground ) The Pilot Signal you need take from pins 4-2 of motor and connect with connector " Pilot" pins 1, 4 ( 1 ground ) of Nagra recorder. The other sound recorder can work without Start signal. What this work. If you press on start button, the motor run and electronic send start signal for run of sound recorder. The amplitude of start signal 8-12v on resistor 1000 Ohm. After 0.5-1 sec the start signal to stop and Pilot-Tone - begin. The electrical motor have bulb for start marks on film. The sound cord must have bridge. If the electronics send start signal , the bulb inside body, near film gate, to shine and exposing of film. Only start signal to stop, the bulb go out too and first picture of film will have first Pilot-tone on recorder. If you need crystal sync motor, you can modify 29EPSS on crystal sync version.
  16. The anamoprhic ( wide screen ) film gate have ratio 2.35:1 ( with 2x enlargement ). The original Konvas film gate marked " A" ( anamorphic )have size : 22.1 x 18.6 mm. This is film gate have ratio 1.18:1. This film gate have place for optical soud track from side. The original Konvas film gate marked " N" ( normal ) have size of 22.1 x 16 mm. This is film gate have ratio 1.38:1. This is film gate have place for optical sound track. The 1.85:1 and 1.66:1 film gates you can ask from Rafael. But, you can cut any size ( ratio ) of image at telecine from " normal " and " anamorphic " film gate. Any case, you need discuss this question with operator of telecine. The matter is that, the many operators of telecine to use 1.85:1 or Silent film gate 1.33:1 without sound track. That's why, your image can have black stripe from side. If you will need cut picture from anamorphic size on 1.85: 1 or 1.66 :1 you need create of correct image on ground glass of camera with idea of next cut. Send me letter on olex@a-teleport.com, i can send you a some images with my comments.
  17. Hi, In accord of USSR engineering standard, the russian lenses have focus barrel marked in meters. The 1, 3, 5, 7, 10 this marking in meters 0.5, 0.8 this is 0.5m, 0.8 m. The marking of word " meter " not set. The special macro lenses with short distance of focusing ( less 1 meter ) can have marking in centimeters. But, the scale must have word "sm" The specual edition of russian lenses for delivery to USA had focus barrel marked in inches. The modern russian lenses Elite Optics can have marked in meters and inches. If the lens of camera have not standard flange focal distance, the scale of focus barrel will not coincide with real distance of focusing.
  18. Hi Dave. Possiblem, you wish draw attention to the exotic interior of Ukrainian village. I can organize shooting in Ukraine. The many interesting locations. You can check style of Ukrainian locations in Internet. From one side, this can be good intrigue, from other side, you can o save money on budget.
  19. Hi. The my primitive test of checking of diameter of circle of image : Mir-11 12.5 mm F2.2 have diameter of image 12.3 mm Vega-7 20 mm F2.0 have diameter 14.07 mm Vega-9 50 mm F2.1 have diameter more 44 mm. The diagonal of Super 16 film gate 14.46 mm. Vega-9 cover Super 16 .
  20. Thank you for good words. The many users of Kinor-16 cameras can confirm of your opinion. Yes, Kinor-16 SX very good camera, have precision transport mechanism with registration pin, have high quality lenses and many other good possibilities. And, this excellent 16 mm prifessional camera have low price now . The electrical motor can be modified on multi speed motor with analog system of speed stabilization and crystal sync multi speed motor. You can see motor modification on page : http://www.geocities.com/kinor35/repair/re...kinor-motor.htm You can see information about service of Kinor camera on page : http://www.geocities.com/kinor35/repair/re...ep-kinor-16.htm
  21. You need checking of feed back of seller. If the seller have good reputation, all will OK. I know many good sellers from Russia and Ukraine. This sellers make business on sell, not on scam. Ask pictures from camera, ask serial number of camera and parts. You can send question to last buyers of this seller and ask opinion about seller.
  22. You ask very interesting question. Yes, Kinor-16 on Super 16 version with Arri PL lens mount, new style of crystal sync motor looking very impressive. But, the film makers will ready pay for this version of Kinor-16 camera ? Or will choose Arri SR2, 3 or other cameras ? I see on picture of modified Kinor-16 camera with wide angle lens of Elite Optic 7 mm I don't know, what price have Kinor-16 on Super 16 version with Arri PL, but, Elite Optic 7 mm lens have price near $3500 . You will need more other Super 16 lenses too, 8 mm, 9.5 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm, 25mm, 35 mm, 50 mm, 80 mm 135 mm. The Super 16 lenses have high price. What price can have this set of lens from Elite Optic or from Arri set? Ok, You wish order of modified Kinor-16 camera on Super 16 with Arri PL and new style crystal sync motor. What price must have this camera for you have interest to buy ? You can buy Kinor-16, original edition with normal 16, 10-100 zoom lens and one speed motor for $650..1200. You can service , adjust and modify motor on multispeed version for $600..800. What you choose Kinor with lenses for normal 16 shooting for $1000...2000 or Kinor with Elite Optics for $10000...20000 ? What you think ? You ready to pay additional money for additional 2.3 mm of wide on film frame ?
  23. If you need low cost Super 8 camera, i recommend russian Quarz 1x8S-2. This is reflex Super 8 cine camera with mechanical spring motor, have many fixed speed and zoom lens. The camera have auto and manual aperture control have attachments for macro shooting and other accessories, have single frame shooting mode. If you wish know about Quarz 1x8S-2 camera, please visit of my site http://www.geocities.com/russiancamera The Super 8 film possible rocess at home and show films on big screen by sine projector. The many amateur filmmakers use a home film processing.
  24. At first, this lenses have difference flange focal distances. C-mount - 17.53 mm, M42 45.5 mm. Not possile set lens with short flange focal distance on camera with long flange focal distance. From other side, If i correct , Beaulieu 5008s Super 8 camera and zoom lens from Super 8 camera not cover size of 16 mm film. Meteor-5 zoom lens 17-69 mm have good quality. If you need more high quality of image , you need K-3 with bayonet and modified professinal zoom lens 16 OPF-12-1 10-100 mm, or Kinor-16 with 10-100 zoom lens.
  25. I can not answer about Eclair NPR, but, i can answer about Konvas and Arri BL3. Konvas camera have a few self-lubricating bearing, but, from my experience of service of Konvas cameras, i set consistent fat on this bearing too, and cameras work very good. The russian cine studios have Arri BL3 cameras. This cameras delivery at 1975..1980. And this cameras work good now. The result of long time life - good oiling and service of technicians from studios. The technicians from Arri company give Arri BL-3 time of life 10 years we had 25 years. We have russian saying, "Good butter will not spoil porridge".
