  1. Actually, the Tevidons you mention are indeed "video" lenses. But made for 1" video, so they easily cover Super16, and are supposedly very sharp. I will have a set of 10mm, 16mm, and 25mm Tevidons shortly (already own the 10mm, and just won the two others on Ebay, and waiting for them to ship). So I cant comment on thier resolution and usefullness until I recieve them, and shoot some resolution charts. After which I will give my results, and perhaps attempt to post some transfered footage.
  2. Hello, I already own the Zeiss Tevidon 10mm f2, and I just won on EBay the 25mm f1.4, and the 16mm f1.8. There is amazingly little information about these C-mount Tevidons, and I simply could not take the curiosity any longer. I paid a lot for the 10mm on Ebay, over $300 (at the advice of a camera/lens tech who you all know very well. But looking back I should have taken that advice with a grain of salt...since they sell brand new for around $400). Luckily, it was in mint condition. I have not shot any tests yet, but I bought a highly detailed resolution chart for just that purpose. FYI, this 10mm seems amazingly free of barrel distortion, and easily covers the Super16 frame, with apparently a bit to spare. It also appears sharp from edge to edge, which is one of the boasts on the site that sells them (doktor optics, or doctor optic, or something like that). But, that is only through the viewfinder. I wrote to the company which I just mentioned relentlessly, asking for additional specs, and if a tech there could tell me the resolution in lp/mm. They were not helpful at all. Well, I will soon have a complete set. My ACL is getting prepped for production, so by the time I get it back, the lenses will have arrived. I am pretty new here, but I will do my best to contribute by posting my results on these highly unknown (but perhaps excellent lenses)....as soon as I have solid results. I will attempt to post clips after some of the footage is transfered. Oh, some posts I have read on different forums, confirm the claim that these are very sharp lenses. But then, conflicting information is everywhere. We shall see soon enough. If anyone has any info they would like to add, please do. These might make a better alternative to using C-mount Switar lenses on various C-mount cameras, like the Eclair ACL. (I'll leave this same message on a few other threads which are discussing the Tevidons)

  7. Hello there, might have been me who won them. Was it an auction for more then one (they had three, actually), out of Canada? (they were called ChristianCinefilms). If so, consider yourself lucky you didnt win. I won two of them (the most-recent 400' French ACL mags) which were listed as "good" condition. Well, the nice Canadian Christians lied through thier teeth, these mags are beat up to the point of near non-operation. I bought them at the request of Bernie O'Doherty who explained to me that the English mags were highly unreliable, and put fear into my heart. So I jumped on the French mags when they were up for auction. So now I have two nice 400' French mags, that are very good at chewing up film. I hope Bernie can get them up to spec, and they are not too badly damaged. Funny enough, the two English mags that came with my ACL....(which I was in fear of using)....look great, and perform like new. So what's worse....a mint English mag (which might fail at any time), or a beaten-down and unloved barely-working superior French mag? Incidentally, they (the wonderfull and highly unethical ChristianCinefilms) never wrote back to me, other then the email thanking me for winning the auction and asking for their money. Many emails later, no response. A-holes to the extreme. Avoid them at all costs.
  8. Well??? All this talk, and back&forth commentary....and yet not a single post about the individual findings from personal tests???? It's been over a year, surely someone has learned something about this topic??? ????
  9. Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me with this situation. After buying an Éclair ACL with the 75fps motor, I noticed a small 9-pin (5 pins over 4) connector on the side of my motor, which on my camera, is green. I assumed it was for a speed control, so I wrote to Mr. Clive Tobin about his Milliframe unit, and what cable I might use if I found one of his units. Well, I won a Milliframe on Ebay, and I again wrote to Mr. Tobin and told him about the connector, and even gave him the specific size of the connector (just to be sure it was the right one), and he said his ?TMC55AA to Tiny Tim Cable? would be the one. So I ordered it from him. Wrong cable! Apparently he didn?t read the size of the connector I specified in my email. My connector is 3/8? at the widest point, the cable he sent is 1/2" inch at the widest point. They look identical, and have the same 5 over 4 pin layout, but are different sizes. He now says that he is unfamiliar with a connection like mine, which is the same in appearance but smaller then the one in his cable, and suggests that the connector on my camera might not be a speed control in the first place. I am very surprised this sort of mix-up could happen with a motor as common as the one in the ACL. Does any have any advice or info about this situation? Is that perhaps not a speed control on my camera? Or if it is, what might that connector be called?to help Mr. Tobin find/build/adapt a cable that might work? Many thanks in advance for your assistance
  10. Anyone know anything about this (seemingly) versatile system? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...rchQ3aUSQQfviZ1 goes to 90fps with included motor? 400'mag. Looks like variable shutter. Appears to accept rods. Whats the catch?

    Pentaflex

I would sure like some answers to that question too. I heard this one character here, "film runner", talking about how horrible that camera was (he did that about another camera too, that I have heard nothing but praise about), then others comment that the Pentaflex is an extremely versatile camera for the price. I would very much like to know more about these from someone with some real experience. I am torn between a Pentaflex and a Kinor right now. The ability to film at something like 90 fps is sure appealing. Please, give us some nutritious info. :-)

    Arri IIa

Hello all, can someone please tell me the differences between the IIa, and the much more common IIb/c cameras? I am trying to find a good reason NOT to get the IIa. I believe it's a much older camera, but what are the other differences? I can only assume there must be come very good reasons you rarely hear about anyone using these cameras. Or....no? Thanks.
  13. Hello everyone, I am brand new here, and this is my first post. I am thinking about the Eclair GV-16, since it can do such high fps (up to 200). However, I have heard mixed things about it. The undertone of some of the things I have read before is "be cautious". Is this simply because this is an older camera? I would be most appreciative to hear comments about this model, and it's suitability for doing sound as well as slo-mo. Many thanks.
