  1. I don't have a Nizo, but a few of my cameras have a switch that closes the eye piece and avoids backlight exposing the film. otherwise, you can throw a rag over the eye piece.
  2. I shot 2 test rolls of Pro8 100D last week. It's actually notched for 40ASA, so I just stopped down 1 and 1/3rd stop from the internal meter reading.
  3. That should work fine then. My shoot is Aug 5th-7th.. it's live concerts and the audio team will be handling the sound recording. So it looks like i'll be editing 24P, S-8, and 16mm to a 24bit wav track.
  4. I'm going to shoot some 24P for the first time. Is the time code still NTSC? I'm want to sync seperate audio and wonder if it will still match up with wav just like standard 29.97.
  5. I found it odd that Vegas has zero MP film services of any kind. But LA is whats closest so thats your best bet. there's Spectra Film and Video, Yale Labs.
  6. I found a few on the net.. the perfect lens for my needs but a little pricey.. i'll keep shopping but thanks for pointingit out. otherwise I found a f1.4 prime Elitar at the camera store today for $75. mounted it and its pretty sharp.
  7. Thanks, anyone know where an Angeneux 1.4 exists for sale? no luck on ebay.. need it by Aug 5th.
  8. Unfortunatley I will need some zoom. And the choices do seem slim. Are the 1.4 Angeneiux lenses soft? or at least almost as sharp as the 12-120mm 2.2?
  9. I'd like to find a decent f1.4 c-mount lens. anyone have some recomendations or experiences they can share? price range... best bang for the buck. thanks.
  10. I have a WP XP and it's great. I get some really nice transfers of all my reversal footage to edit for my artwork. Pro telecine for reversals doesn't seem to appear much suppurior. I have to say that the DV transfers in the link above looked horred.
  11. The new version of Vegas, Vegas 6.0 supports digibeta and DV. for my next project, I'm hoping to capture the transfers from digibeta.. do my edit and sound sync, then print back to digibeta for the master. anyone think this won't work?
  12. I'll be shooting with a couple of DVX100's as backup to S-8 and 16mm. The new version of Vegas (haven't upgraded yet) will allow me to capture 24P, but don't know yet how it will work in NLE with 24P and film at 29.97 with 24fps pulldown. output will be to digi beta then pressed to DVD.
  13. Hmm, well I convert the audio to 24fps running speed, and it matches up nice with film that is actually running at 29.97. Sony Vegas 6 will capture and is compatable with 24P.. Maybe I can just keep it in true 24P? what is the usual chain for 24P?
  14. I still don't think there will be much demand for K-40 after 64T comes out.. except for the die hards, that won't break even.
  15. On an upcoming music project, I'll be mixing some 24P DV with film. It will be my first time mixing the two. When I work with film in NLE, it runs at 29.97 fps with 24fps pulldown. Does 24P video go through a pulldown? My biggest concern is that they will be sharing the same audio track.
  16. C'mon! I just got another camera for $25 that reads 64ASA
  17. If you want to use it for something serious or mainstream, carry it through in digi beta and use the right compression in post, it will look awsome. The film seems under rated to me.. It's not a replacement for 16mm or DV, but has a lot of potential just being it's own thing.
  18. Aside from comparison to 16mm, it looks better than you would expect from a 500ASA frame that size. It looks sharp and clean running on my computer moniter, nothing looks good on my cheap TV. If you carry it in a high platform and broadcast, or press to DVD you can get some amazing results if thats the aesthetic you want. here's a freeze frame pic from WinMM, captured with sony vegas from miniDV, telecine was Flying Spot.
  19. I guess the 200 degree difference is insignifigant enough for Kodak to recommend the 85 filter with ECN films instead of an 85B. ECN tungston films are 3200K as well, but according to an online discussion I read (David was in on) Kodak decided on a coin toss to go with an 85 filter based on the yellow curves of ECN films and familiarity I guess? Ekta reversals respond a little different so they recommend an 85B. An 85B will also cut at least 1/3rd stop than an 85?
  20. I just watched it again a couple weeks ago. I enjoyed the story personally. It looks surprisingly good if you consider the technical aspects.. shot at 18fps, DIY telecine, and the use of S-8 7240, they pulled it off very well. The grain isn't bad either, they did use a wider gate.
  21. Here's some Plus X S-8 1/3rd under. I transferred it with miniDV and work printer, so there's added contrast, I brought the levels up a tad.. the still is more pixelated than the avi.
  22. The E-6 Ektachromes are more modern and different from the VNF Ektas. as they are to K-40 as well. You'll get better results with the 64T. I've had only a few good moments with VNF and don't miss it.. I hope things go well enough to see a 160T E-6 reversal in S-8 a year from now.
  23. After the 64T comes out and people see it, they will be choosing it over K-40. The die hard K-40 people can stock up all they want now. Dwayne's already said they will be processing it after 2006. I've already compared K-40 to E-6 100D, if my observations prove comstant for S-8 K-40 and 64T, I guarentee K-40 won't hold up against it. and producing both stocks in S-8 would only hurt the format. however, success with the 64t may open up additional E-6 films in the future. If you actually believe what you are saying, you can always order a special run and sell it yourself.. would you even dare? not to mention there will be plenty of K-40 and processing around for years. do you want to compete with 64t and left over K-40? otherwise, buy 100carts, put them in your freezer, and leave Kodak alone!
  24. Well, I'm hoping to do the transfer to digibeta and keeping the tape as backup.. but while i'm at the telecine suite, capturing from the digibeta to an external drive. thus avoiding a hard to find deck to rent just so I can transfer files. I guess the question is, are external portable drives set up for capture? how can this drive be set up? or would i just be transferring data from the house system? in that case, would it be uncompressed? if so, the last time I checked an uncompressed 5 minute file was about 17GB. I will have about 2 hours of footage.
  25. Sounds like the shutter is frozen shut on your camera.
