  1. I would try amazon....otherwise if no luck I'm very happy to try and see if I can get you a copy here in London. We could do payments through paypal.
  2. Hi Jon, Firstly where in the world are you? My experience with chinese lanterns is that you can buy the paper ones for a couple of $/£'s. I've never had them catch fire using a 500W bulb. The annoying thing with them is that they tear quite easily, so best to have a couple of extra to hand. If my assurances don't inspire you then I believe there are some anti-fire sprays out there. Alternatively and out of your budget there are some polyester type of material chinese lantern. I think k5600 makes some. http://www.k5600.com/ Good luck!
  3. Nothing but complete and utter timeless geniuses!!! Welease WADAWICK!!!!!
  4. Some would say that this is quite endearing but trust me, it really wasn't. I once shot a 4 week feature with a director which, amongst many other unbelievable issues, consistently shouted "ACTION!!" at the end of a take..... The whole crew felt like the roman guards in that part of The life of Brian when the emperor says "...Biguth Dickuth!!!"
  5. Hi Viviana, Welcome! There have been loads of discussions about this subject. If you haven't already, then head up to the search menu and key in "film school" I'm sure you'll find loads of info.... S
  6. Adam is right...the french industry is VERY hard to break into. The commissioning process over there is tighter than a camel's ar....... Unless you have very good links and contacts its a very very loooooong road. Good luck!! ;)
  7. Hi guys, Thats a great idea but unfortunately I can't make it tomorrow. It would've been great to meet you all, put faces to names. Next time! Have a good one! Cheers
  8. Can this be considered a perk of the job?? ^_^ ......I mean the testing of course!! :P why you.....
  9. Hi Erdem, Today's stock has so much latitude that there is loads of room for error. So don't worry too much about that. My advice is concentrate more in achieving the feel you want with your lighting. If you don't feel that its working, don't be afraid to say to the director "It isn't working! Give me 10 mins and I'll make it work." Sounds indulgent but if you have a good relationship with the director he/she will work with you. Good luck!
  10. Je pense q ces't pas ca! Some ppl are just busy with work, others just have other commitments (family etc..) I can't remember little details of the film, as I watched quite a few at the same time over a period of 4 weeks, so I need to watch it again and then I'll come back to you with a more complete feedback.
  11. Unless there is loads of water going on them the heat generated from the light will evaporate the drop of water before it can cause any harm.
  12. Those past big blockbusters were achieved in conditions that most ppl these days would not be able to deal with...we are spoilt in how easy it is to make a movie. I believe that the reason why yours, and also my, favourite movies were made in the last 20 years, is because we relate to it and it is written with a higher state of consciousness. Which, arguably, we have in comparison to then. I don't believe that cinema has reached its zenith, I think we are in a moment of anticipation with change. The movie industry is about to be revolutionized in a big way....some say it has started. And I believe it has, but only will the new chapter in movie making begin when the top of the food chain embraces fully what is, in effect, still in its embryonic stages. Fantasia, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and...I can't remember any others right now....are revered as great pieces of film work.

  14. I am also based in London and think that a London sub forum sounds like a great idea..... Although my hair is not grey to the point of being considered an experienced individual in my field, I am starting to get a few grey hairs....does that mean that I will start to get more and better jobs?
  15. Well John I am, as some would say, a true european. I have Portuguese, English, French, Scottish and Prussian background. Born in London raised in Lisbon, Portugal. I believe we have been shackled to the US since the mid 1950's due to the loans from the US to rescue our economy. We still owe them $2trillion dollars? Although John (Sprung) reckons that Obama's appointment is not going to improve things internally, on the outside, my impression is that we all believe that he will improve things. Or maybe John(Sprung) is a republican at heart.....
  16. Really? Cause the general consensus here in the UK is that Obama getting in will have a positive effect on the position of the US throughout the world, which in turn (we hope) it then reflects on your economy (which of course we, your poodle, rely on).
  17. I had a meeting today with a client that is always super busy and he's just suddenly ground to a halt......he ate his food like he does when we are shooting. Super quick. And then suddenly remembered that he had loads of time..... He seemed very concerned and so am I. Most commercial companies are being priced out by virals. TV programs are heavily reliant on sponsors. Promos are now being shot by students for a small portion of fish&chips Corporates are disappearing as blue chips are tightening their rather large purses. In January out of around about 200 proposals only 20 films were commissioned....in comparison to last year it is absolutely frightening! Lets just hope that Obama getting in (and not having a kennedy done on him) might just mean that we miss out on the recession and it all goes back to normal.
  18. It is about diffusion, not of the gel kind and isn't about lights. But since light is required for the diffusion to take place and also the fact that part of Jamie's question is about the reasoning behind BLEACHED and UNBLEACHED muslin, I gave him as much info as I could about all aspects of using muslin. Saying that a muslin is a diffusion and its softening effect is like this or like that, is, please refer to his initial post, only part of Jamie's question........but not ALL of his questioning. In this case as a muslin is a material that soaks up most types of liquid form, thus meaning that you can bleach a muslin. By doing so you are adding not only DIFFUSION to your source but also COLOUR! As we say in the UK, killing 2 birds with one stone. Peace! ;)
  19. The answer to my back problem is Osteopathy (you have to find a good one!) and Pilates. The former straightens your back structure and the latter strengthens your core.
  20. Being an alfacinha I tend to go to Lisbon, as family and friends are there but If I do venture up to you I will certainly let you know. Good luck with your choice of camera!
