  1. Michael, That's a bit heavy! I don't think that that was the meaning behind this......
  2. Ok, I've read so many posts on red and all the stills that I have seen from this post and others (with the down rezzing taken into account) seem nice. "Manure" and "The Gladiators" being the ones that stand out the most. Some ppl in here are quite cynical about the posts from the red team, I value everyone's input but its really hard to get a bearing on who to listen to. It seems to me that it blows most HD cameras out of water for the exception of the F23(latitude and highlights) and the Genesis (Workflow and Latitude). Some say that it shoots 4K, others say it doesn't. Also it seems to have re-booting issues......can someone please put me out of my misery as directly as possible. I'm not the most technically minded cinematographer in here, I go with the approach that "if it produces what I'm looking for then I'm going for it". Cheers
  3. It has got a period look but read the AC Mag March08 and have a look at how Mad Men was lit.....apart from the fluoros I don't think it differs much from the 'office' of today. good Luck!
  4. That is hilarious.....maybe it will stop all the emotional battles! Film forever! ;)
  5. Out of interest.....David, what are your thoughts on Doyle in the link that Tim provided and also overall? I know curiosity killed the cat....
  6. Apparently he lets off a bit of a weird odour due to the fact that he drinks rather than eat protein. Nevertheless that is a personal thing.....professionally I think he's a very good dp that deserves the accolades that he gets. Also he breaks the mould and for that he'll always gets my vote!
  7. I think it was my inability to write clearly that created the confusion. I'm dislexic and therefore sometimes find it hard to write clearly and concisely. Stephen's, yours and other info that I have since read have shown that, although in the future the red will most likely be a cheaper option to offer to film with near to equal results, its not a sacrifice that most people would make at this point. Thanks for your patience.
  8. Yeah sure I understand that....but hypothetically if red did provide to be a cheaper option than film would you bring that to the table or just not offer that possibility as an option? btw just to say that reading your post and seeing your images has had quite an inspiring effect on me. Thanks for sharing that!
  9. Hey Jayson, Fantastic work and great detailed description of each shot!! Congratulations!! I am interested if would you recommend it to a production that had agreed to shoot film but at last minute had to reduce costs? Even though they hadn't suggested to change format but were looking at other areas....i.e lighting etc...
  10. Brian, I believe that to be successful (and I don't mean rich) in our profession requires patience, perseverance, understanding and ingenuity. The journey is the most important part of it all! All the best of luck!!
  11. I've tried...god knows I've tried but what does "Mehhhh" sound like? :P
  12. I was being sarcastic...I actually feel like paying the fee at the cinema just because of this post! S
  13. Its a bit disappointing that it goes from Edward Norton (who I rate as a TOP actor) to a green CGI of Hulk......somehow it just doesn't fit!! S
  14. Just had a read and I am amazed at the reactions. I don't think I've ever read so many bad comments about a fellow cinematographer's work, who is at the top of the food chain. I did ask 'er indoors, as she took the kids to see it, what her views are on it. Bear in mind that she doesn't work in our environment but is a fine artist. She said that she enjoyed it and that she couldn't or didn't notice anything out of line. I asked her how it rendered itself aesthetically and she said that on the whole is wasn't an amazing piece of work but just an entertaining film that worked for what it is and for. Are we being too critical? I don't know....I'll make my own mind up when I see it on dvd  It does seem that from a consumers' pov it does the job. I don't usually believe that sequels work but then the "bournes" had to come along and show us all that it can!! S
  15. I agree with John! As for whoever told you that you were stupid to shoot celluloid....sigh......well.....don't listen to them. It is the absolute right thing to do!! S
  16. I agree completely! I must also add that through 'creative fights' I have also forged some great working relationships. There are only certain things that you learn about each other that happen under such a situation S
  17. Phone them and say that you heard on the grapevine that there is a film being shot there soon and that coupled with your enormous ambition and good work you also have local knowledge to offer! Worth a pop..... S
  18. Isn't it great that we work primarily in a country where production values are top of the agenda!
  19. Hey Nick, I would suggest that you try a 3 light kit that would comprise of a 1x 1kw(pup), 1x 600w and 1x 350w. There is no standard wattage for a key/fill/backlight etc....its all down to your environment and what you are trying to achieve. I also recommend that you also read some books on lighting. Kino = name given to a light from a company that makes balanced soft fluorescent light sources http://www.kinoflo.com/ S
  20. Hey Daniel, Congrats!! This is something that you can learn loads from, so don't forget to ask as many questions as possible. You might find that you are having to learn so many new things that you tend to feel that you are not doing your job right. But just try and keep in mind that every experienced crew member was exactly like you many moons ago. They'll understand and be more than happy to help if you show the right attitude. I bet Paul Marchant and his crew are busy making their own dalek suits in their cave!! :D Good luck and let us know how it went! S
