  1. Whats the batch number on the cartridge box of the 64t?, early 64t were not lubricated and prone to sticking. Batch 311 and higher should be ok...
  2. Hi, i'm no expert, but i've filmed on kodachrome for 20 years, 8mm, super 8 and 16mm, messing with neg in the early 90s, and again when k25 was axed as at first i wasn't a great k40 fan. K25 looks better in daylight and appears to be sharper over k40. I may have a few suitable snipets of film ( if required ). How do you plan to transfer any cine kodachrome footage onto HDCAM? Sounds like an amazing project.
  3. Hi Matt, its been about a year since i owned an R10 and i dont recall that switchon the rear of my camera. Reckon its some kind of mod, perhaps and i'm only guessing, some kind of crystal synch mod, i wonder if you require another part to plug into a jack on the camera for the motor to run. I'm only guessing. Looks like the mice have been at your eyecup rubber

    Wein Cell PX625

Yes, they work very well, you'll need to peal off the backing film, and leave the battery for a short while before use. Have one in my leicina 8s for approx 3 months now and still ok. Some cameras work ok with a 1.5v battery, be warned though, i once used a 1.5v battery in my leicina 8s, it screwed the metering, kept underexposing everything. Now i use the 1.35v wein cell, but the damaged caused by a 1.5v cell requires me to use exposure compensation on the camera...
  5. My understanding is the kodachrome process will continue until December 2010?? ( i hope )
  6. Hi, remove the cartridge, run the camera without the cartridge. If the camera runs ok, you probably have a sticky/jammed cartridge... Give the cartridge a few taps in the palm of you hand and reload the cartridge. What make of film are you using??? If 64t what is the batch number?
  7. Hi, search ebay for a wurker splicer, they are possibly the best 'patch' tape splicer around. Here is a useful place for reels/cans etc http://www.momentcatcherproductions.com/page6.html
  8. Hi, you say the image is rather dull on the beaulieu, do you mean under exposed, are the images darker? Providing the 8-64 in haze and fungus free and your inbuilt 85 or skylight filter are in good condition, you should obtain great images, even at f1.9 with the 8-64 lens. The best zoom lens for the 4008 will be the schneider 6-66 followed by the angenieux 6-80 lens. When was your camera/lens last checked by a service technician?
  9. Hi Alan, what voltage is the projector set for?? As for 64t and the jitters, providing your using batch 311 and higher, all jitter issues should now have be resolved, i recently ran 64t at 54fps for 90 seconds with no jitter at all. I doubt the 50d will be as steady as 64t ( still waiting to shoot my carts of 50d )..
  10. Hi, if you are referring to my beaulieu eye cups, available from Bjorn in Sweden, Wittner may stock them too....
  11. Sorry the photo is a little on the dark side, here we see the black version on the 4008 with 6-80 angenieux, then a custom blimp for the 4008 series of cameras. I have no idea who actually manufactured these blimps, this was an ebay purchase..
  12. WTB a canon double super 8 camera, must be in full working order with no haze or muck in the optics... Thanks..
  13. if you go the ektachrome 64t route with you gaf camera, the images may be over exposed. Best option is to look for a more advanced camera, super 8 k40 is currently available from wittner, but the expense of shipping from Germany then to the USA for processing will be a bit costly. Is retro enterprises still going? they used to sell super 8 stocks and cameras and were based in Japan..
  14. Hi, not so much the camera, but the lens, has anyone seen one before?, its an isco-gottingen 10mm iscorama-cinegon f1.8 1.5x and is rather sharp too!!
  15. Hi, 6-70 came with or without the inbuilt filter. Remove the lens from the camera, run the camera, then disconnect the power supply while keeping the trigger depressed. Hopefully the mirror shutter may stay open, try a couple of times until mirror shutter is out of optical path for you to look into cameras gate to see if the camera has an in built wratten filter. It maybe possible the previous owner bolted on the 6-70 obtained from another camera. I've owned a ZM4, but i just cannot recall whether the camera or lens had the filter. The last thing you want to do is shoot film through two 85 filters!!! I'm sure the 6-70s with filters were supplied on the 6008/7008s as these cameras did not have in built filters... Hope i've made some kind of sense.
  16. Hi, i would of thought the cost of having the cleaning work carried out will out weigh the cost of another camera. Also you'll need to locate a technician familiar with the 8-64 lens fitted to the camera, and once the cleaning work has been carried out, will all the elements be in correct alignment?. I've never seen an 8-64 suffer from fungus before, i wonder what state the wratten filter is in to.
  17. quote ''This film was revered by so many in the home movie and amateur filmmaking community. E64T is a joke by comparison'' Lately i filmed a couple of weddings on 64t, and sorta got used to the film. Today i received back from the lab a roll of super 8 k40 exposed thru a little canon 514xl... Well side by side k40 vs 64t, it made me weep at what we've lost, the k40 images were stunning, i've yet to project the roll of standard 8mm k25, i'll know it will only depress me, as within 18 months or so the E6 process will be the only way to continue to shoot 8mm film. now quoting Mak Dunn "At least its demise won't kill 35mm. as Kodak virtually killed amateur Super-8" I totally agree with you on this, i know a few people who gave up when super 8 k40 was axed, even the forums seem less active these days too.... RiP kodachrome, you deserved better....
  18. Hi, if you plan to use auto exposure, then use either k40 ( wittner chrome 40 ) or wittner 50d, if your happy to use manual exposure, kodaks 64t is the cheapest film stock option, also look at wittner 100d, with a fast lens and reasonable light levels, youll get away with 100d for interior scenes too... Run a test film thru that camera before the wedding day!!! http://www.wittner-kinotechnik.de/katalog/...mm/s8_filmm.php
  19. The canon ds-8 used the same fitted to one of the early silent 814s.. I do not like the 1/87th shutter speed on the 4008, mechanically its better than the 6008/7008. The 6008/7008 range used the schneider 6-70 or beaulieu 7-56 lens also available was a 6-90.. The 6-66 can be used on the 6008/7008, but without the lens control unit, (i'm not sure about the 8-64) meaning you have no power zoom or auto iris. A lens control unit can be fitted to the 6-80. I would choose the 6008/7008, but you will have to search for a 6-66 and 6-80 and have the lens adjusted to the camera. If you can live with the 1/87th shutter and you plan to shoot a great deal of handheld stuff, the 4008 is ( imo ) a better camera for handhel used.. Bset set up is 4008 zm11 and 6-66, put cash aside for a complete camera overhaul...
  20. I use ds-8 but i would avoid the scoopic, the lens is ancient, a leicina special or beaulieu with 6-66, 8-64, or 6-80 lens blows the optics on the scoopic away. I know as i've owned 3 seperates canon ds-8 cameras. A converted bolex with switar primes is imo, the only route to opt for in the ds-8 format... The 6-66 is the best zoom lens ever made for the super 8 format, and the leicina 10mm cinegon ( from what i've read ) was the most corrected lens ever made for the super 8 format. DS-8 films are available from Wittner, including k40....
  21. I agree the movie 6 does produce nice images, later dark brown rolleis the one with the 8 and 12 times zoom did suffer on the QC side, understand the rollei 12 is somewhat rare..
  22. Hi, have you filmed a wedding before?, if yes or no, look on vimeo for super 8 weddings, its great for ideas, styles etc. Does the couple know what style they like, i've got one later this year and the style is an intimate home movie, so short scenes, the occasional blurry image, one or two jump cuts, the zoom in and going out of focus etc, but included ( hopefully ) quality footage.. Tripod, until a couple of years ago i would of said yes, no question. But now, i would probably go hand held. If they want a wedding video approach but on super 8, then yes, tripod. If your shooting from a long way off for the cereomony, then tripod. Cameras, what lens is on the 4008?, mine is the 6-80 T1.4 angenieux, for the ceremony ( generally indoors, over here ) i use the 4008 with blimp, as wide open, the lens is sharper and lets more light onto the film than cameras with a beam splitter. My choice, 4008 for low light footage depending on lens, otherwise r10 1014xls for well lit footage Take all three cameras, canon 1014xls is the best run and gun cam, r10 has the sharper bottle.. Given i used an R10 last year on a wedding, i would not use one again as although the film indicator said the film was transporting, infact it was jammed!!! I've never experianced this problem with my late 1014xls, or current leicina special and 814xls. Take a small 50-100 watt light with you. Plenty of film, batts, lens cloth. assume you got arrival times of the groom, bride, ceremony, get a complete running order of the day with times, locations, arrive very early, check out the venue. if your not filming the bride getting ready, it maybe worth considering, leave in plenty of time to arrive at the venue though. take food and drink with you
  23. The ironic thing is, the person who purchased the camera is alway jesting that i use a micky mouse format ( super 8 ). I have doubts he will part with or ever use the camera, but i hope to at least see the thing in the flesh within the next two weeks. Will take photos and keep you posted...
  24. Hi everyone, foolishly i didn't attend a reasonably local cine convention and have since found out, i missed out on an ACL. Ok there's plenty more ACL out there, but this was a double super 8 conversion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Has anyone on heard of an ACL converted to the ds-s format before, were they common, are there any companies that can convert one? I will be in contact with the person who purchased the ds-8 ACL, as he is thinking of getting the camera converted to super 16. I may offer to buy him an ACL already converted, how much do super 16 ACL fetch, in mint condition?
  25. A zm2 was available with 80 fps, it was supplied with the 6-80 angenieux lens and i believe only 500 units were made, around 1976-ish....
