  1. right on yo. btw if you have an external trigger check the ramp box and set it to event then go to the gpio settings and change it from record to ramp then you can start at 24fps at the start of the clip and when you press the trigger it'll go to 120
  2. did you set the frame rate under the varispeed menu? if not try this. system-> project -> configure -> time base: set to 23.97 then Sensor-> varispeed-> frame rate: set the frame rate to 120 check the varispeed box.
  3. hey, i don't think it'll work on 16:9 i got it to work on 2k 2:1 at redcode 36

  5. http://www.red.com/learn/red-101/exposure-false-color-zebra-tools i think this is for the epics and scarlets but its helpful. I believe the the false color for the red1mx is tied to the raw recording, not the look you dial in. I've never used an alexa so i don't really know.
  6. I got one used a few years back and i'm still using it. I've had problems with it overheating twice, and with it randomly not recognizing the ssd's or cf cards once with both types of media. other than that i haven't had any troubles with it. yea its heavy, my rig is about 30lbs with follow focus, lens, mattebox ect. my biggest complaints are not being able to have the menu output available through hdsdi and not having individual output settings for the hdmi and hdsdi. other than that i think it's a fine camera. is it all it's cracked up to be? that's a matter of opinion again i rarely think anything is. When I bought it I was expecting "cinema" quality images from a relatively affordable camera which to me it still delivers. at the time it came out you still couldn't afford a 35mm camera, unless it was a old school Russian camera's (i have some Lomo lenses and love them) One of the best things about it and the company as a whole is that the really got the other companies off their collective asses. I don't think camera's like the Ursa or the Cion would be around without it. but most of this goes back to personal preference. Later yo Devindra S
  7. these are based on how much i enjoy just watching these movies. I pretty much agree with all the other ones I've read on here as well. "The Fall" - Colin Watkinson "Sunshine" - Alwin H. Kuchler "the Fountain" - Matthew Libatique "Blade Runner" - Jordan Cronenweth "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy." - Hoyte Van Hoytema "Alien" - Derek Vanlint "Children of Men" Emanuel Lubezki "Prometheus" - Dariusz Wolski "The Watchmen" -Larry Fong "Hero" Christopher Doyle "Legend" - Alex Thomson
  8. you know i was just talking about this movie to a friend of mine, i remember watching it in the theater up here in san francisco, and thinking "wow" great job on the site and the analyzing the scenes, i find it really helpful. :-)
  9. hey everyone, have canon t2i and a 7d, I know they have a crop factor when using canon ef lenses but i'm curious to know if they has a crop factor when using 35mm cine lenses with a pl or oct19 mount adapter? thanks
  10. sorry the media thin didn't work http://exposureroom.com/members/Wraith/cb199e6ad4e34b849a3678f98a5de79a/
  11. hi folks, this is a spot i did for a zippo contest. shot on a t2i, with canon 85 and 105 ef primes and a 50mm fd prime. I used a 1k with 1/4 silk for the back light 500watt for the for the key then set a 250 for fill with tough spun. Increased the contrast a bit to lower the blacks in post Let me know what you think http://exposureroom.com/Get_a_light/ <object id="xrPcb199e6ad4e34b849a3678f98a5de79a" width="1280" height="720" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://exposureroom.com/flash/XRVideoPlayer2.swf?domain=exposureroom.com/&assetId=cb199e6ad4e34b849a3678f98a5de79a&size=lr&titleColor=%23ffffff"><param name="movie" value="http://exposureroom.com/flash/XRVideoPlayer2.swf?domain=exposureroom.com/&assetId=cb199e6ad4e34b849a3678f98a5de79a&size=lr&titleColor=%23ffffff" /><param name="allowNetworking" value="all" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="True" /><param name="wmode" value="opaque" /></object><div><div class="viewOnXRDiv"><a href="http://exposureroom.com/cb199e6ad4e34b849a3678f98a5de79a" class="viewOnXRLink" title="Get a Light by Devindra Sooknanan - View it on ExposureRoom" target="_blank">View on ExposureRoom</a></div></div>
  12. hey joe, usually if i know i'm doing color correction later I'll use a flat setting for the camera then when exposing I'll point the to a highlight area and use the in camera meter. Then adjust the exposure so the highlights fall around +2 as the meter reads -2,-1,0,+1,+2 (with 0 being roughly 18% grey) this has worked well for me so far. Its kind of like using the the zebra's on a traditional video/hd cam. hope that helps. avoid blowing out as much as possible, unless you don't mind sky replacements :-)
  13. Hi i was wondering if anyone was having problems with editing t2i 60p footage. for some reason when i Export it it coms out in slow motion or choppy even when i export it to same specs as project (720 60p) I'm not sure what the issue is. I'm using premeire pro cs3. Thanks
  14. Right on I'll look into that. I'm used to doing the whole run and gun thing for most of the stuff i've shot and hand held with the dslr's really doesn't work that well without some added weight.
  15. Hi everyone, I just got a t2i and i was wondering if anyone had a suggestions on handheld rigs. witch one's people find most comfortable or practicle etc. Let me know what what you guys/gals think. Thanks
  16. while i like some of his movies, I personally feel that his newer stuff is sloppy. but it may be because he is who he is he can "get away" with it but i personally don't like it. i though there where some very good looking scenes in the girl friend experience other scenes i though looked bad. Also i wasn't impressed with the informant either. I think it might serve him well if he had a dp and they both worked as operators. i know that Ridley scott occasionally did op for some of his stuff and i've like all of his movies. Thats just me.
  17. hey adrian, did for the 60hz thing is that only when using ac or should it be set there when using the battery as well?
  18. Hello everyone, i'm shooting a short for a director and with a camera (sony ex3) i've never worked with before. he mentioned that we might have to finda a way to deal with flicker while shooting, but i said that since we weren't going to be using any lights that use ballasts (hmi's/kino's) or shooting Tv screnes it shouldn't be a problem. i'm reading the manual and its not really helpful in explaining what types of situations might cause this problem. so i guess the questions are A) Does the ex3 just have strobing problems in general, or are there certain conditions that i should avoid other then those mentioned B) is it an internal problem causing the flicker (camera setting of some sort) C) what ways are there around this "problem" D) does it only occur when the camera is run off of AC or does it happen with batteries as well Thanks a bunch Devindra S.
  19. hey thanks for the reply mitch. i though that the uncompressed output was only for live output though the composite/component out, how would i do it to a firestore? I was also thinking of hacks for posible improving color sampling and stuff like that. I like to tinker around with stuff  Thanks Devindra S.
  20. Hello fans of the Gy-hd100, I currently own 2 and I was wondering if anyone knows of any hacks for it like what people have done with the Andromeda version of the dvx ? I was thinking there might be a way to bypass the cameras compresson and incode it as a raw file on a firestore. but i'm thinking that this would take some hacking to both the camera and the dr-hd100. not sure how to write code or make firmware but i'm assuming that and a few extra pieces here and there would do the trick. Let me know if you have ideas or suggestions on how to go about doing this. Thanks Devindra S.
  21. oops that was dione beebe that did memoirs of a geisha, Mauro Fiore did training day, get carter and smoking aces all of which i though rocked also christopher doyle would be cool i though hero looked awsome
  22. hi all I'm new to the group, but I'd go for Matthew Libatique first( the fountain), wally pfister (The prestige), mauro fiore (memoirs of geisha), roger deakins (everything cowen brothers) , Robert Elswit and Jordan Cronenweth (if he were alive, because blade runner was just awsome), I also like emanual lubezki work on children of men and sleepy hollow. oh and Larry Fong because he really knows how to do a green sceen/virual set justice  i guess thats a lot of people but if i could follow each of them around for a few months i think i'd learn a lot. Peace and filmmaking Devindra S.
  23. Hi mary, When did the problem start? I had a problem with the eject button that started after i dropped the camera, I took it apart (partially) and then found the lead wire to the eject button plugged it back in and it worked fine. the Lcd cables might be Loose or something like that. if you are mechanically inclined I'd take a crack at opening it up and seeing if there's something that looks out of place. our just go with the viewfinder. Good luck Devindra S.
