  1. i use a bayonet to nikon convertor supplied by les bosher ( £85) and it allows me to use some fast nikkor lenses on my super 16 ebm. just have to take the adjusted shutter speed when metering (1/60). the results are very impressive compared to the angenieux zoom so i recommend the set up.
  2. Ive used Soho Images for a couple of short test runs and ive been impressed with the quality of the process/telecine - a few weeks ago sent 3x100ft rolls of colour neg for process and one light transfer and also two rolls of k40 for telecine and it all came to £99, only took a couple of days too.
  3. Jeff I enjoyed the video, it looked great - how did you get those great colours, Ive been using my HVX for DV shooting and dont get anything like it. could you give some clues about how you achieved the filmy look of it for when I advance to HD. cheers
  4. Hi, has anybody got some suggestions for renting a sony Hvr-z1e for a couple of days, I live in the UK and have been checking out a few websites, anybody used 'New Day Pictures' or 'Hireacamera.com'. The idea of renting scares me a little with the fear of losing a large deposit because something happens to the camera during shipping, I live in mid wales so its difficult to pick up and drop off. All suggestions welcome?
  5. Im selling my braun nizo Pro super 8 camera right now on ebay, in mint condition and a good package as it includes the wide angle lens adapter and the remote switch, i can also email some transferred footage shot with it if your interested. im in the UK so postage to US is £29. for Airsure ( thats our airmail with a guarantee) or cheaper surface mail. thanks for reading, the link to the ebay page is http://cgi.ebay.com/Braun-Nizo-Professiona...1QQcmdZViewItem
  6. I managed to get a manual in the end so no worries, but I have a question regarding the best way of getting sound from the DAT into Avid express on my PC. I dont have a digital cable for the recorder but from the manual it looks like Id need a special converter for the pc anyhow as it ends in an xlr connector - so my question is : am i limited to using the line out phono connectors and run that into the mic socket on the my computer then use Audacity to record to WAV format? any suggestions, comments or general info on this set up would be greatly appreciated. 7. im looking for manual for this DAT field recorder, anyone own one and can let me have a copy or point me in right direction?
  8. Dear John, 50D in super 8 in time for the summer sunshine would be good news ?
  9. I know this question may seem pointless as K40 winds its way to the grave but has anyone tried processing it to a black and white negative, ie. first step in the reversal process followed of course by a fix stage. I just wandered what the resulting black and white image might look like once telecined, the idea comes from something Jack Cardiff said about his filming on 'A matter of life and death' where the b&w scenes were shot on technicolour film but not processed for colour, the result is the beautiful pearlescent quality of the 'other life' sequences in this brilliant movie (contender for greatest ever movie IMHO). Would the KODAK swiss lab be able to offer this or are the machines set up for all the processing steps at once - I imagine this to be the case but just thought i'd ask anyhow? Im a great fan of K40 since getting into 16mm filming and shot some footage using an bolex ebm in dull weather conditions, looked great on projection but after telecine came back a bit dark and flat colour wise, is this because the telecine machines/operators arent geared up for reversal film - any advice is appreciated!
  10. you might have read my post on S8 forum but ive just been stung by the widescreen centre (200ft scratch) and wont be using them in future, you might end up paying more for a quality lab at Todd AO but if you are shooting lots of carts it might be worth it in long run!!
  11. Aggghhhhhhh.......... poop happens for an amateur! A few months back ... I splashed out on 4 carts of KODAK Vision 2 500T from the Widescreen centre here in London kept it refrigerated until i could rope some friends in shot some footage for a Demo had it processed/graded telecine to minidv by the same company and what do I get back this week for my expense and efforts. An ugly huge scratch runs like the river thames right across the central part of the frame - runs from start to finish and ruins some nice images i acheived (IMHO). I've shot a fair amount of super 8 reversal and understand the grainy/scratchy beauty of it but this idea is new to me. A swift moaning call to the guy at the Widescreen centre then followed, he sounded a bit peeved about my complaint and pointed out that it had happened during processing which they outsource to a lab in germany, and definitely not by their telecine machine - only a small particle in the machine could have caused the scratch. Because of the nature and volume of super 8 processing that goes on I have to accept my loss and move on - if i couldnt do this he suggested leaving S8 alone and stick with 16mm or higher - sounds like a shakey sales philosophy to me (maybe im too small fry). In the end to give them credit they did refund the cost of the processing (£51 out of total of £230 wasted)!!!! should i think myself lucky i got some money back at all or am i right to be a bit annoyed??????? any feedback or similiar experiences would be appreciated - id be especially interested in finding out if anyone's any experience with Todd-AO, the only S8 neg lab in UK?
