  5. hi yes thats about right , worked on second Star Wars movie , in Norway , was meant to be 2 weeks , turned out nearly 6 , paid loads of money , bought 1 bedroom flat in a suburb of london called sutton , on the strength of that one shoot , doesnt happen any more . shame . john

  8. He shot David Cronenbergs early movies , so it was mostly horror , now it seems to be all comedies, prefered his early work . john holland.

  10. About 200asa double x , iam guessing , so about 800- 1000, foot candles , to get to f22. not to hot , compaired to Technicolor in th 30s-40s about 2-5asa , then shoot at f2.2 . john holland .
  11. Plus all the coating was removed from the lens used so flares from anthing hot was made more apparent . john holland .

Hi again , i should have said the only way you really learn about , movies , history , what ever is you have to look back a bit , i spent years and years in the cinema learning from what you call old movies , i would watch where the shadows were falling , so working how the shot was keyed , camera movement , cutting and the rest , dont want to sound like a old fart , but still do that now, even though how its been done . john holland, london.

Kept away from this for a while Landon , How you can say you liked remake of Psycho , i am gob smacked .i know nothing about you but i think you should listen to what Stephen , and try and get out sometime and watch some older movies , nothing is original , someone has done it before and usually better . john holland , london.
  15. hi guys i still have and use a L-398 studio deluxe , given to me by David Watkin , dont use it all the time but , feels good when i do . Love sekonic meters . john holland , ps got some other old ones also from Mr Watkin .

David you have often said about Ossie Morris use of stockings over front element of lens in Fiddler on the Roof , several times when the sun flares the lens , it is very obvious , i dont find this a problem , flares etc , as far as i am concerned its all part of the beauty of good cinematography. john holland, london.

  18. Dont forget ,the Technicolor Dye Transfer Prints , that made the images lookso good , i have seen some Eastmancolor prints from Techniscope origins , you wouldnt want to go there. john holland.
  19. I agree Sam , the first three looked fantastic in 70 mm blow up. i did 6 weeks on Empire , in Norway , very difficult conditions , not alot of fun . john holland .
  20. David it wasnt a personal attack on you ! I have to keep up with the latest technology like everyone else, i dont want it to take over the creative process , you can make beautiful images with the most basic equipment that is what iwas trying to get across . john holland.

  25. To honest cant remember i used a 85 filter , this is going back at least 15 years , if going to tape or print . Easy correction and you get that extra speed without filter . John holland . London.
