  1. I believe it's a 19 mount based on other lenses which have close serial numbers and look the same: https://sites.google.com/site/olexservicelenses/home/new-solutions/lomo-prime-spherical-konvas-2m

  3. Thanks guys for the tips! I think I just might go save a few bucks. :) -Dave
  4. I am looking to build a grip belt kit and was wondering where's the cheapest place around LA to pick up some gear. Thanks! -Dave
  5. Darn, I was afraid to hear that. I didn't really want to wait for buying online. But I guess that's why you pay the premium. :) -David
  6. Hey guys, I am not able to find the American Cinematographer Manual (9th edition), at either Borders or Barnes & Noble around here. Anyone have an idea where I could pick this up in the LA area? Thanks! -David Frank
  7. LOL. How dare you compare Manute Bol to that hack Uwe!
  8. You don't see the resolution loss, but you do see when they switch to the close up of the sports writers. They are shown full screen several times in the program. They are definitely shot normally and just cropped for the screens. As for the idea of shooting portrait, it has been something on my mind for quite a while. Obviously delivery of the video is the important part(how it's shown). I think an experimental video shown on the web is the way to go. That is unless you can convince all your viewers to turn their TVs sideways. :)
  9. I really like the color palette , but every shot looks too closely cropped. It looks as if it was shot in 4x3 without a clear idea of how much would eventually be cropped in post. It seems like a 1.78 or so ratio would be more fitting. Good stuff! -dave
  10. Thank you very much! Always have to be completely sure. -dave
  11. Hi, I am shooting a project for a cinematography class tomorrow on 16mm b+w film. I am using the stocks 7222 and 7231(for outdoor scenes). We are using the Bolex H16 cameras with the prism reflex systems. We have been taught to compensate for the light loss on the camera by 2/3's of a stop. So when shooting 7222(200asa) we meter for 133asa. But I was looking at the ASA rating of the 7231 which is 80-daylight and 64-tungsten. I am racking my brain trying to figure out what I should meter for with this stock when shooting outside. I thought I remember metering it as 50ASA on previous projects, but I have forgotten(so has my group members). Any thoughts? -David Frank
  12. Very true. That footage at the Arri booth was simply stunning. It's just not a fair comparison. You get what you pay for.
  13. Thanks for the great suggestions guys. I will call up Monaco ASAP!
  14. Why don't you got rent one for a couple of days? For my first feature, I rented a monitor on a Friday, returned it on Monday for not much cash at all, and the color looked fantastic. Just check pro video rental houses. They have them all over.
  15. Hi, I just picked up a Konvas 2m camera(my first 35mm movie cam experience) and I would like to get some dummy roles to screw around with and learn how to load the mags and all that. Where can I pick some up? I am in San Fran if you know of a place local as well. Thanks!
  16. That Spectra had caught my eye. I think I will go that route. Too bad they come in a bunch of lame colors. I think I will stick with black.
  17. And the fact of the matter is that there is no real killer reason why everyone should switch over to Avid anyway. If you have an infrastructure built around Avid and it works fine, why switch?
  18. I just meant I didn't want to spend 5-600 dollars on one. I had been told they could range all the way up to 700 or so.
  19. Hi, I am about to pick up a Konvas 2m and am in need of a good light meter. I would prefer digital, but if they are too expensive, I might have to settle for analog. So what would you recommend on the cheap end?
  20. So that battery is all I need? Just plug it into the motor and recharge at night? It says on there is powers all day.
  21. I am buying a Konvas 2m that comes with a non-cystal motor. I plan to buy the crystal motor(17EP) and install it. The one thing I don't know about is powering the crystal motor. What would be the best(most portable) option for powering this system? And how long do these batteries last? Thanks!
  22. Hmm...thanks for that clarification. Just to make sure I totally understand. To get a motion blurred and brighter image similar to slow shutter speeds in the video world, I would have to shoot a lower frame rate? And if that's the case, how do I slow the footage back down to normal speed? Is this done in the telecine process if you were going to video?
  23. Hi, I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how slow shutter speeds are achieved with motion picture film cameras. It seems like many adjustable shutters allow for fast shutters, but not slow. How is this done?
